Brooks & Dunn have shared a lengthier snippet of their hotly anticipated collaboration with Morgan Wallen, a revamped version of the duo's iconic 1991 hit single, ‘Neon Moon’.
The reimagined rendition of the slow-burning break-up anthem arrives on November 15, as part of Brooks & Dunn's keenly awaited Reboot II project. It features a star-studded cast, including Lainey Wilson, Jelly Roll, HARDY, Megan Moroney and many more.
However, Morgan Wallen is undoubtedly the most eye-catching guest vocalist on the record, with Morgan and Brooks & Dunn having linked up to perform ‘Neon Moon’ earlier in the year, during the Sneedville megastar's Kansas City, Missouri tour-stop.
The newly shared snippet of ’Neon Moon’, which has been unveiled via the official Brooks & Dunn YouTube channel, finds Morgan Wallen taking the helm for the entire first verse and chorus. His signature, raspy drawl laces an additional sense of grit and emotion into the track, with this clip leaving fans clamouring for the full version.
Morgan Wallen and Brooks & Dunn's Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn have long had a strong sense of chemistry, with Ronnie emerging during Morgan's 2022 show at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena for an electric, crowd-pleasing performance of ‘Neon Moon’.
During another teaser shared by Brooks & Dunn across socials, Morgan Wallen explains how he was keen to pay homage to the original version of ‘Neon Moon’, while still imprinting his own style on the track, “Pretty much whatever vehicle I got into as a kid it was blaring [Brooks & Dunn's] music. It's a little bit intimidating and challenging, and for me, I don't wanna stray too far from what I consider something that's perfect. We added a little bit of flavour to it, but it still keeps a lot of the OG too”.
The clip has been spreading like wildfire across TikTok, with users creating their own videos using the viral one-minute preview of Brooks & Dunn and Morgan Wallen's ‘Neon Moon’. As a result, it's already shaping up to be one of the biggest tracks on Reboot II.
In the first instalment of Brooks & Dunn Reboot duets album, ‘Neon Moon’ featured Kacey Musgraves, who gave the track a decidedly hazy, disco-infused ambience, mirroring the broken-down, dive-bar vibe of the lyrics. Morgan's take on the track gives it a more traditional-leaning feel, and arguably stays closer to the original.
Most importantly, both Kacey and Morgan's renditions of ’Neon Moon’ serve first and foremost and tributes to a game-changing track from a legendary, trailblazing country duo - a song that remains one of the many glittering jewels in the genre's crown.
