Bradley Gaskin continues his hot streak of releases in 2026 with his evocative, vulnerable new single, ‘Dyin’ Proof’, which arrives just over a month after the fiery ‘Burn It Down’.
Penned alongside his producer, Keith Stegall, ‘Dyin’ Proof’ finds Gaskin providing a storytelling masterclass as he regales listeners with the tale of a man who is left by his beloved wife and daughter, a loss that ultimately proves too hard to bear.
Speaking ahead of the release, Gaskin explains how the song came about, “Keith and I met to write...but nothing hit us hard until he said, ‘Dyin’ Proof’ - and that was all it took”.
As is often the case with the best songs, ’Dyin’ Proof’ flowed out in less than an hour, with Gaskin touching on the universally accessible feeling of grief that underpins the raw, heartbreaking track, “A family split changes everything, especially when children are involved. Some loves don’t last, and some hearts stay broken forever”.
He goes on to outline how, unfortunately, at the heart of this song is a story that will ring true to many, “The kind of pain that feels - and, sadly, sometimes becomes - terminal”.
The composition feels pared-down and stripped-back, mirroring the intimacy and deeply personal ambience of the narrative, with Gaskin's wistful croons gliding across the retro instrumental. As he approaches the spellbinding hook, his rich vocals are cushioned by the yearning cry of steel and the unashamed twangy guitars.
It feels cut from the same cloth as George Jones’ iconic ballad, ‘He Stopped Loving Her Today’, with Gaskin clearly paying homage to his country forefathers through the traditional-leaning spirit of the song. With neo-traditional country music enjoying a resurgence in popularity in recent years, it feels like it's the perfect time for Gaskin.
Gaskin would be forgiven for feeling a sense of vindication, too, given how the Duck Springs, Alabama native was dropped from his previous label for being ‘too traditional’.
After his visceral songwriting piqued the interest of a Nashville executive in 2008, Gaskin was signed to his first publishing deal, and he secured a record deal shortly after. He scored a Top 40 hit in the form of ‘Mr. Bartender’, which he wrote by himself.
As he geared up to drop his debut album in 2011, though, he was released from his contract. Gaskin returned to his hometown and took up various jobs at a sawmill, helping at the family business and working as a janitor for five years at his daughter's school.
It was here that Jack Cole, a longstanding fan of Gaskin’s songwriting, discovered him, and offered him a record deal on his newly formed label, 30a Life Records.
Then, in 2025, almost fifteen years after he was supposed to release his debut album with his former label, Gaskin fulfilled his lifelong dream and dropped Unfinished Business.
The title feels apt, as the buzz and momentum garnered from that project has helped to propel Gaskin onto the radar of various Music City tastemakers and classic country aficionados, ensuring the anticipation is sky-high ahead of his sophomore project.
The album showcases Gaskin's penchant for wonderfully steel-soaked compositions and striking, clever lyricism, something he demonstrates once again with ‘Dyin’ Proof’, which, of course, pivots around a play on words on the phrase ‘Livin’ Proof’.
Thankfully for Gaskin's quickly expanding fanbase, it seems he has plenty more where that came from, “We want to continue celebrating the success of Unfinished Business by releasing new songs throughout the year for download and streaming”.
With a charismatic, old-school delivery that feels like a combination of Alan Jackson's charismatic drawl and George Jones’ soul-stirring, heart-rending vocals, as well as possessing an impressive pen and an ear for killer hooks, Gaskin is cementing himself as an artist to watch as the excitement builds for his next studio album.
