After teasing the collaboration earlier in the week, Michigan's bluegrass prodigy, Billy Strings, has released his brand new song, ‘California Sober’, with Willie Nelson.

It drops a day before Willie Nelson's 90th birthday celebration at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl, which will feature an eagerly awaited performance from Billy Strings, along with Chris Stapleton, Tyler Childers, Charley Crockett, Miranda Lambert, George Strait, The Chicks and more.

Strings couldn't have picked a more appropriate guest artist for ‘California Sober’, with the song light-heartedly looking back on years of partying and use of hard drugs, before the duo resolve to stick to Willie Nelson's favourite herb instead (“I’m California sober, as they say”).

Attendees at Willie Nelson's 90th birthday extravaganza will be hoping they might get to hear Strings and Willie perform ‘California Sober’ together for the first time, especially given the fact that the event will be taking place in the name-checked state.

Strings is currently in the middle of his 2023 run of tour dates, with shows lined up in the coming months in Colorado, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri and more.

At the moment, it's unclear whether ‘California Sober’ is simply a standalone single released to celebrate Willie Nelson's 90th birthday weekend, or whether it will form part of Billy Strings’ eagerly awaited follow-up record to 2022's Me / And / Dad.
