During a backstage interview ahead of his momentous 2025 CMA Fest Presented by SoFi appearance with Bailey Zimmerman, BigXthaPlug has delved into his transition from rap to country, as well as sharing some details about his forthcoming project.
The long-teased country EP is set to feature BigXthaPlug's viral collaboration with Bailey Zimmerman, ‘All The Way’, along with his new link-up with Shaboozey, ‘Home’. The latter, which serves as BigX's second joint track with the ‘A Bar Song (Tipsy)’ hitmaker, will be made available to stream tomorrow (Friday, June 27th).
Excitingly, in this new interview, the Texas rapper has confirmed the title of his eagerly anticipated project: I Hope You're Happy. BigXthaPlug has also revealed that ‘You Look Like You Love Me’ singer-songwriter Ella Langley is one of the guests on the EP.
The genre-blurring maverick began by endearingly expressing his excitement at making his CMA Fest debut, “This is my first time at the CMA Fest. I mean, it's a blessing to even be recognised enough to come and be allowed to come do something like this, with the amount of meaning it has to the genre. Man, it's a blessing”. Fans can rewatch BigX and Bailey Zimmerman's performance tonight (Thursday, June 26th) as part of the 2025 CMA Fest Presented by SoFi TV Special, which airs on ABC at 8/7c and is available to stream on Hulu the following day.
BigXthaPlug went on to outline how Zimmerman ended up on ‘All The Way’, “So the creative process for ‘All The Way’ with Bailey Zimmerman...I made the song a couple years ago, and when I made the song, even with just the vocals that were on it already - we had a writer or something do the vocals - I knew it was a hit then. But when we kind of shipped it out and we got Bailey's verse, it's kind of like we just knew”.
BigX reflected on how his Lone Star roots have helped to pave the way for his foray into the country music world, “My Southern upbringing...I feel like it brings a lot to really everything I do, as far as my sound, my flow, the way I move, the way I come off, very South-ish, you know, as far as my manners...just everything. I mean, I feel like it makes a great impact with the relationships and with the music”.
As for why he decided to test the waters with some country crossovers, BigX explained, “After the thing with Bailey, and then me just doing ‘Texas’ by myself, it kind of made me want to wander off into another lane. And I was so accepted by the Jelly Rolls and the Post Malones - and just everybody, really...They sent over stuff for me to get on for that project. So we got a whole project called I Hope You're Happy on the way”, before teasing, “You got Jelly Roll. You got Post Malone. You got Bailey Zimmerman, Shaboozey, that's a brother of mine, Ella Langley, you got a lot of people on there. So definitely be on the lookout for that”.
BigXthaPlug was photographed alongside Ella Langley, Shaboozey and his daughter at the Billboard Power Players ceremony in Nashville earlier in the month, during which the latter presented BigX with the coveted 2025 Innovator of the Year accolade.
However, this is the first mention of a collaboration with Ella Langley - and given how infectious ‘All The Way’ and ‘Home’ are, we can't wait to hear BigX's song with Langley.
There's no release date for I Hope You're Happy, but the arrival of ‘Home’ with Shaboozey seemingly signals that BigXthaPlug's keenly awaited new project is on the horizon.
