Bailey Zimmerman has taken to socials to tease a brand new song, ’Holding On’, which finds the Louisiana singer-songwriter delving vulnerably into the topic of mental health.
The snippet arrives after the ‘Religiously’ hitmaker confirmed he was back in the studio recording new music, with Bailey donning ‘Holding On’ one of “my favourite songs I've ever done”.
Across the atmospheric strum of an acoustic guitar, Bailey Zimmerman croons despondently, “There was a time / When I had the fight / And I could've made it through one more night / But I'm losing my mind / And can't find the light / Then you take my hand and make it alright / If we had the choice / To block out the noise / Will you be strong / And keep holding on / If this was your last breath / Would you waste it on me?”
Despite beginning from a place of introspection and pain, ‘Holding On’ takes a more positive turn as the protagonist gains assurance and comfort from his lover's support. This leads Bailey to ask whether she'll always stay with him through thick and thin.
Although there's no release date yet for ’Holding On’, unlike some artists, Bailey Zimmerman doesn't tend to hang around too long after sharing a snippet to drop the full track.
With his previous single, ‘New to Country’, for instance, Bailey teased a clip of the rowdy, energising anthem on June 18th, before releasing the studio rendition just ten days later.
Similarly, ‘Holy Smokes’ was made available less than a month after we heard the first clip, which makes us think - and hope - we can expect ‘Holding On’ to arrive in early October.
