Rising Americana talent, Adeem the Artist, is popping the top on a brand new musical era as they release their new single, 'One Night Stand'.
Included on their forthcoming Anniversary LP, Adeem describes the song as "a 90s pop country bop", but this tune has a bit of a twist.
Laden with a bright acoustic guitar, layers of luscious harmonies and all the other characteristics of a swooning country love song, 'One Night Stand' is a proud Queer love song, which is something near and dear to the artist's heart.
“Queer Country as a genre has meant a lot to me,” says the Eastern Tennessee-based entertainer. “Discovering Karen & The Sorrows, Paisley Fields, D’orjay the Singing Shaman, I had a community that I got stitched into with a rich tradition of political activism, demystifying theory and reclaiming space in the cultural rooms where we’ve long sat unacknowledged.”
A member of the Queer community, Adeem and the song fill a special place in today's country music landscape as they sing: "He wants a one night stand / I want a life full of nights with him". By the song's end, the listeners are surprised to hear that both characters got what they wanted as they sit together on the porch, years down the road, drinking coffee and enjoying each other's company.
The lead single from their upcoming Butch Walker-produced record, the 12-track project will be available on May 3.
Recorded live to tape over five days at Nashville's The Butcher Shop, the collection, which is doused in empathy, humor and deep introspection, features a top-tier ground of musicians, including Megan Coleman, Nelson Williams, Aaron Lee Tasjan, Katie Pruitt and more.
Blending classic and contemporary, commercial and experimental, Anniversary sees the artist playing with various musical stylings, with a constant country, rootsy thread tying it all together.
Adeem's last two albums – 2021's Cast Iron Pansexual and 2022's White Trash Revelry – garnered critical praise for their exceptional songwriting and delivery, as well as widening queer acceptance in the greater country music community. In the time since, they have continued to concoct their own special cocktail of equal parts Appalachian musical influences, poetic flair and a healthy dose of comedic instinct.
This summer, Adeem the Artist will be busy on the road, serving as support for the likes of Tyler Childers and Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit. They will take stages in Indiana, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Texas and more.
