After months of teasers and live renditions of ‘Tulsa’, 49 Winchester have at long last released the much-loved track ahead of their brand new album, Leavin’ This Holler.
The new track features the Virginia band's signature concoction of energising electric guitars and evocative, sepia-tinged lyricism, with Isaac Gibson's powerhouse vocals cutting through the instrumental to give the nostalgic anthem an added edge.
They offer up a clever play on words as they transition from a reference to Don Williams’ iconic track, ‘Tulsa Time’, to Kenny Rogers’ celebrated hit, ’Tulsa Turnaround’, symbolising the protagonist's desire to leave Texas and return to the familiarity of Oklahoma.
‘Tulsa’ is the latest release from 49 Winchester's new Leavin’ The Holler project, which drops on August 2 and features the previously shared ‘Yearnin’ For You’ and ‘Fast Asleep’.
In addition, 49 Winchester aficionados will be able to hear another longstanding unreleased fan-favourite, ‘Hillbilly Happy’, on Leavin’ The Holler, alongside a highly anticipated collaboration with fellow alt-country up-and-comer, Maggie Antone.
The arrival of ‘Tulsa’ cements 49 Winchester's status as one of the future frontrunners in country and Americana, with the six-piece securing a high-profile touring slot last year opening for Luke Combs, as well as being booked for a slew of coveted 2024 festival appearances at CMA Fest, Windy City Smokeout and more.
