After what has been a remarkable year for country-rock band 49 Winchester, the group have announced a monumental homecoming show that will see them play at the historic Freedom Hall Civic Center Arena in Johnson City, Tennessee. The legendary show will be held on December 12th and marks the end of a year of record-breaking success for the group.
The Southwest-Virginia group released their acclaimed sixth studio album Change of Plans produced by Dave Cobb earlier this year - a rootsy-rock album that paid tribute to the personal growth and artistic journey they’ve been on. The 'Everlasting Lover' singers were also nominated for 2026 ACM Group of the Year, recognising the widespread fanbase the band has cultivated and the success they have catapulted towards. To close out the special chapter, they will be returning to their roots and hopping over the Virginia-Tennessee state line to do something special for the fans that have supported them along the way.
Taking to social media to announce the momentous homecoming show, the group have also shared who will be joining them. The ‘Russell County Line’ hitmakers are set to be supported by fellow Appalachian fan-favourites Sundy Best and The Local Honeys, conjuring up a night of Appalachian music at the Freedom Hall.
If you’re lucky enough to get a hold of tickets, this is guaranteed to be a special night for both artists and fans. 49 Winchester’s bassist Chase Chafin shared that “growing up, we always heard stories about all the legendary rock bands and country artists that have played Freedom Hall. We’re excited to have a spot to bring the full show home.”
The group certainly aren’t new to live shows of this nature, having just ended a run with Eric Church and now setting out on tour with country legend Tim McGraw. This homecoming extravaganza, though, means something a little bit more, “Our music has taken us all over the world in the last several years. Before that, we played just about every room that would have us in the Tri-Cities and Southwest Virginia. This concert really will be a homecoming for us and for so many people that have been with 49 since the beginning.”
