Amanda Shires has shared a multi-generational, all-female version of her impactful single ‘The Problem’.

The singer-songwriter, who originally released the single featuring her husband Jason Isbell back in September, has recruited an array of diverse female stars for the new version of the song - retitling it as 'Our Problem'.

Cheryl Crow features on bass whilst Cyndi Lauper, Angie Stone, Lilly Hiatt, Peaches, K.Flay, Linda Perry, Morgane Stapleton, Nona Hendryx and Valerie June take it in turns to sing a couplet before all hitting the chorus together, in harmony, at the end of the song.

The emotional piano ballad, which discusses the subject and rights of abortion, takes on a whole new meaning as the women come together to sing, as if they are a united support group. Shires has changed the lyrics of the second verse to fit the change of perspective from a male voice to a collective of females.

Talking exclusively with Holler, Shires remarked “When I was going through this myself, one of my friends was there for me even though she didn’t believe the same way I do, and I think that has a lot to say for our friendships.

When it is one-on-one, you can see that it’s not black and white, there are so many shades to consider in the conversation. The more we talk about it, and keep learning about it, the more other people will.

She continued: "There’s a lot wrong with sex education, in my experience. There’s a lot to say, and a lot that needs hearing down here. It’s past the point of abstinence".

Amanda Shires collaborative reimagining of 'Our Problem' is out now, with all proceeds made from the single donated to The Yellowhammer Fund.
