The Background:

After teasing the song through a series of flirtatious videos, Warren Zeiders and Bellah Mae treated us to the full version of ‘Overrated’ on Wednesday, September 9th 2026.

It serves as the fifth single from Zeiders’ 2026 album, No Brakes. When Zeiders and Mae started sharing content surrounding ‘Overrated’, including videos where they suggested they were ‘hard-launching’ a relationship, social media was awash with theories that the two might be dating. Although speculation persists, it seems this was simply a clever way of adding buzz to the new song's release.

The Sound:

‘Overrated’ finds Zeiders doubling down on his genre-blurring sound, with the ‘Can A Heart Take’ hitmaker exploring a decidedly pop-leaning aesthetic across this collaboration.

Teaming up once again with Evan Blair - one of the songwriters behind Benson Boone's smash hit, ‘Beautiful Things’ - along with Jesse Finkelstein and Sean Douglas, Zeiders injects an added sense of desperation and emotional weight into his trademark raspy, charismatic delivery as he yearns to fall back into the arms of his old flame.

Mae's sleek vocals complement Zeiders’ guttural voice perfectly, with the duo crooning across an energising bed of electric guitars and an emphatic, staccato drum pattern.

The Meaning:

‘Overrated’ opens with Zeiders underlining how he's tried everything he can to get over his ex, from swearing off alcohol, to burying himself in the bottle, but nothing has worked. As a result, he decides he's had enough and he's tired of being in pain all the time.

The only solution he sees is to call up his old flame and tell her he wants to get back together. Mae jokes that all the therapy she's had to try and get over her ex was simply an excuse to talk about him, before they decide they're going to give it one last shot.

There's an underlying sense that it was always destiny for the couple to get back together, with Zeiders still referring to Mae as “my girl” (“I followed every sign that led me to your front door / I'm coming to get my girl / You're still the only one”).

“I tried to sober up
Then I tried drinking again
It didn't matter either way you're still in my head
I tried to give it time
Felt like forever and more
I followed every sign that led me to your front door
I'm coming to get my girl
You're still the only one
-
I can't take another day
Of waking up without you
Sick of hearing people say I'm better off without you
I tried but I can't fake it
Cause the feeling never faded
Getting over you is overrated
Getting over you is overrated
-
We tried a hundred times
But what's a hundred and one
Just like a river baby somethings you can't out run
'Cause all the therapy was just a good excuse
To have a reason I could talk with someone 'bout you
-
Oh, you said
I'm coming to get my girl
You're still the only one
-
I can't take another day
Of waking up without you
Sick of hearing people say I'm better off without you
I tried but I can't fake it
'Cause the feeling never faded
Getting over you is overrated
Getting over you is overrated
-
Getting over you is overrated
Getting over you is overrated
-
Oh I tried to fight it
Tried to push it deep down and hide it
But baby there's no denyin'
I don't know how to give you up
I won't give you up
-
I can't take another day
Of waking up without you
Sick of hearing people say
I'm better off without you
I tried but I can't fake it
Cause the feeling never faded
Getting over you is overrated
-
I can't take another day
Of waking up without you
Sick of hearing people say
I'm better off without you
I tried but I can't fake it
Cause the feeling never faded
Getting over you is overrated
Getting over you is overrated
Getting over you is overrated
Getting over you is overrated”
