Song lyrics and meaning for Zach Top's 2026 song, ‘Other Side Of Hurtin’.
- Song Other Side Of Hurtin’
- Lyrics“Ridin' a stool at a bar known for losers
A guy sits down and asked me how I'm doin'
Well, bud, if I was good I wouldn't be here
Chasin' whiskey down with lukewarm beer

The Background:
Zach Top included ‘Other Side Of Hurtin’ as the ‘Side B’ to his 2026 single, ‘Good Girls & Cowgirls’, with the Washington native releasing this two-pack as an homage to old-school vinyl releases. It consolidates Top's role as a neo-traditional flag-bearer, with ‘Other Side Of Hurtin’ a more pared-down, intricate ode compared to Side A.
The Sound:
‘Other Side Of Hurtin’ finds Top tipping his hat to the traditional country ballads from forefathers (not actual fathers, despite the rumours...) like Alan Jackson, along with George Jones, George Strait and Randy Travis. Throughout this heartbroken offering, Top croons forlornly across a stripped-back, steel-soaked instrumental.
The Meaning:
The curtain opens on our tragic hero sat in a familiar scene. Top is nursing a whiskey and a beer as he sits despondently on a lonely bar-stool, when someone sits next to him.
The guy attempts to strike up a conversation, asking Top how he's doing, to which he dryly replies, “Well, bud, if I was good I wouldn't be here”, before hinting that it stems from a break-up. The man presses him a little, but Top makes it clear he doesn't want to talk about it, because the wound is still far too raw.
Our protagonist does his best to change the topic of conversation, “How 'bout we just talk about the weather? / Hey, don't you think them Cubs are lookin' better? / These days she just ain't my favorite subject / I'll buy a round, what are you havin' next?”
The damage has seemingly already been done, however, with Top confessing to the man that he was just making his way to ‘The Other Side Of Hurtin’, but he hints that he's been transported back to square one, as the memory of his ex comes flooding back.

I'm just now gettin' to a place where things are fuzzy
Ninety proof's got a way of dullin' memories
There you go askin' me another damn question
I told you I wasn't gonna talk about it, friend
I'm just now gettin' on the other side of hurtin'
So don't you go bringin' her up again
