The Background
In October 2026, around three months after Gracie Abrams released her third studio album, Daughter From Hell, the pop phenom surprised fans with a brand new single, ‘Here You Come, There You Go’. It serves as the first arrival from the five-song deluxe edition of Daughter From Hell, which drops on November 20th, 2026.
It finds Abrams teaming up with revered producer Jim-E Stack and prolific songwriter Amy Allen. It's only the second time Jim-E Stack and Amy Allen have joined forces, with the pop maestros teaming up previously for Olivia Rodrigo's ‘purple’. Alt-folk titan Aaron Dessner produced the original Daughter From Hell album.
The Sound
While much of Daughter From Hell found Abrams delving into an intricate vein, and mirroring this with pared-down, folk-leaning compositions and largely acoustic backings, ‘Here You Come, There You Go’ is a return to a more exuberant pop sound.
It's an infectious earworm, with Abram's sleek, sinuous vocals cascading down the energising, synth-driven instrumental as she frustratedly confronts an on-and-off lover. It seems this is a signal of what's to come from the four next deluxe offerings.
The Meaning
The crux of ‘Here You Come, There You Go’ is captured in the title of the song, which sees Abrams employing the comma-separated phrasing she uses throughout her discography (‘I Love You, I'm Sorry’, ‘I Knew It, I Know You’ and ‘I miss you, I'm sorry’, for instance). This conveys the state of confusion our protagonist finds herself in as she struggles to make sense of mixed messages from her lover.
It's a tale of a toxic relationship, where our narrator's partner picks her up and drops her as he pleases, leaving her anxiously trying to keep track of his mercurial moods.
Abrams laments how, just when she's managed to free herself from his throes and is starting to move on, that's the moment when he suddenly decides he wants to be with her again (“Now you're wanting back in / Your big dramatic feelings / Funny how it happens when I'm good, when I'm so / 'Cause I get reattached, I'm a double-knotted rope / Undo me like magic, here you come, there you go”).
Abrams uses this imagery of a ‘double-knotted rope’ to highlight how she feels as though she's contorting herself to fit in with his volatile emotions, as well as being all turned around in terms of how she feels about this relationship. There's clearly passion there, otherwise she wouldn't keep returning to his arms, but it's evident that it's a relationship built on a bed of manipulation and imbalance. Every fleeting moment of excitement (“Here you come”) is quickly followed by the crushing despair of her lover's subsequent and inevitable exit (“There you go”).
What has Gracie Abrams said about ‘Here You Come, There You Go’?
Abrams took to socials ahead of the track's arrival to underline what an honour it was working with Jim-E and Amy, “I love this song so. much. and writing it with [Jim E-Stack] and [Amy Allen] made me feel like a kid. I am so excited and I hope you enjoy”.

“Hell froze in my bedroom
A phenomenon I came to
Half-believing, I never met you before
That's when you decide you want more
-
Now you're wanting back in
Your big dramatic feelings
Funny how it happens when I'm good, when I'm so
'Cause I get reattached, I'm a double-knotted rope
Undo me like magic, here you come, there you go
-
Here you come, there you go
-
Go, oh, you spit it out, say what you're after
Pull doors in my life until it shatters
Oh, so my well-being's not a factor
No, it never stopped me loving you before
-
Now you're wanting back in
Your big dramatic feelings
Funny how it happens when I'm good, when I'm so
'Cause I get reattached, I'm a double-knotted rope
Undo me like magic, here you come, there you go
-
Here you come, there you go
Call me your miracle
Kill and die and make it grow
Ah, ah, oh
Here you come, right on cue
Break my heart and make it new
What the hell can I do?
Ah, ah, ah
-
Now you're wanting back in
Your big dramatic feelings
Funny how it happens when I'm good, when I'm so
'Cause I get reattached, I'm a double-knotted rope
Undo me like magic, here you come, there you go (Oh)
-
Here you come, there you go
Here you come, there you go (Oh)
Here you come, there you go
-
Perfect, we got something”
