After a show-stopping 2023 event, Iowa's biggest music festival is getting even bigger in 2024 as it returns to Saint Charles from August 2-4.

Offering up multiple days of top-tier entertainment at the Avenue of the Saints Amphitheater, the highly anticipated 2024 edition of Hinterland Music Festival will feature a truly fantastic trio of headliners as folk prodigy Noah Kahan, genre-blending entertainer Hozier and staple alt-pop band The Vampires take over the celebrated stage.

Elsewhere across the three day festivities, attendees will be treated to performances from plenty of country, Americana, roots and folk acts, including Charley Crockett, The Red Clay Strays, Orville Peck, Lizzy McAlpine, Sam Barber, Josiah and the Bonnevilles, Mt. Joy and plenty of others.

First launched in 2015 by Des Moines-baed concert promoter Sam Summers, Hinterland Music Festival offers a weekend of one-of-a-kind live music, camping, craft vendors and more.

Drawing upwards of 15,000 people each year, the 2023 festival was one for the history books as fans were graced with a headlining trio written in the stars and made up of Zach Bryan, Bon Iver and Maggie Rogers.

Over the years, Hinterland has seen a wide range of superstars take the stage, including Brandi Carilie and Old Crow Medicine Show – who headlined the inaugural year – as well as Willie Nelson, Sturgill Simpson, Kacey Musgraves, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, Tyler Childers, The Avett Brothers, Billy Strings, Phoebe Bridgers and a long list of others.

2023 collaborations with the likes of Zach Bryan

 under his belt, it may seem Noah Kahan’s role as the cross-genre, all-star matchmaker is a novel one.

However, the Vermont native’s been doing this from the start. Kahan’s first major hit, ‘Hurt Somebody’, was originally released as the solo lead single from his 2017 EP of the same name, before it was reimagined later that year with Julia Michaels. This duet went on to become Noah Kahan’s first Gold-certified single, and served as the folk prodigy’s first tentative step into the mainstream consciousness.

‘Hurt Somebody’ clearly laid out the Noah Kahan blueprint - rewardingly vulnerable introspection, sugar-coated with infectious, uptempo melodies and atmospheric production. The following year, Noah Kahan’s debut album, 

, doubled-down on the fast-emerging artist’s determination to probe thorny topics surrounding anxiety and depression. Since its release, the record has given rise to Kahan’s Busyhead Project, which seeks to help those struggling with mental health issues.

This enchanting openness continued on Noah Kahan’s critically acclaimed follow-up album, 

, that caused the long-haired crooner’s popularity to truly explode.

 viewed Noah Kahan’s home-town through two tussling lenses - on the one hand, there is the rose-tinted nostalgia for its simpler, peaceful surroundings; on the other, many songs are coloured by a distinct sense of cabin fever and fidgety angst born from the COVID-19 years.

’ in June 2023, Kahan started teasing an entirely unexpected collaboration with global phenom, Post Malone.

This duet, an updated version of one of the many 

 highlights, ‘Dial Drunk’, would ultimately turn out to be the first in a string of blockbuster link-ups. As well as re-recording 

 and ‘She Calls Me Back’ with Kacey Musgraves, Noah Kahan guested on Zach Bryan’s September stand-out, ‘Sarah’s Place’. Tantalisingly, Noah Kahan has confirmed he has more collaborations on the way, with fans hoping he’s already hit the studio with one of his main musical influences, Hozier.

Charley Crockett has an aura of myth about him. As the distant relative of American folk hero Davy Crockett, he's lived up to his ancestor's name, traveling all over the country and gathering its influences into what he describes as his 'Gulf + Western music', which blends traditional country, honky tonk, blues and soul.  

Crockett was born in 1984. He grew up in Texas, where he taught himself to play guitar and write songs without any formal training. He left home at 17, using music to support himself as he busked and played in New Orleans, New York, and across the U.S. 

His talents attracted attention from the music industry, including a two-year management deal with Sony Records, but that didn't pan out. Instead, he went to Northern California, where he worked on farms, before heading to France and Morocco. 

When he returned Stateside, Crockett self-released his debut album 

 in 2015. Over the next six years, he went on to release a total of ten albums. But it wasn't until the release of 2020's 

that he began attracting more national attention for his music.  

He followed that breakthrough with a tribute album in honor of James 'Slim' Hand called

which he released in 2021. That same year, Crockett released his tenth studio album 

At the age of 37, he was named Emerging Artist of the Year at the Americana Music Awards in 2021.
