The expansive Country Thunder festival series will once again be setting up shop in Twin Lakes, Wisconsin in 2024, bringing another star-studded lineup to country music fans. The 2024 edition of Country Thunder Wisconsin is set to take place July 18-21.

Country music's leading lady will be joined by a stellar crew of headlining acts across the festival's four days, including Eric Church, Nickelback, Koe Wetzel and Bailey Zimmerman.

Elsewhere on the stacked lineup, attendees can expect high-energy sets from the likes of ERNEST, Stephen Wilson Jr., Jake Worthington, Randy Houser, Kip Moore, Elle King, Randall King, Josh Ross and Meghan Patrick, among others.

For the 2023 installment of the four-day powerhouse festival, crowds were treated to headlining performances from Jason Aldean, Keith Urban, Cody Johnson and Jon Pardi, with other big-name acts like Lainey Wilson, Carly Pearce, Ashley McBryde, Parker McCollum and Bailey Zimmerman also taking the stage.

A multi-state and multi-country music festival brand, Country Thunder hosts several concerts in North America each year, including in Arizona, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Bristol, Florida and Wisconsin.

The Wisconsin and Arizona events first began in 1996, with Country Thunder Saskatchewan launching in 2005 and Country Thunder Alberta starting in 2016. In 2019, Country Thunder Florida became the most recent addition to the CT family.

Over the years, some of country music's biggest names have appeared on the brand's various stages, including Garth Brooks, Kenny Rogers, John Denver, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Tim McGraw, Clint Black, Alan Jackson, Brad Paisley, Reba McEntire, George Strait, Taylor Swift and Kenny Chesney, among others.

When any starry-eyed country music hopeful packs up their life and moves to Music City, they're often moulded, sculpted and pulled in every which way by label execs in order to build a specific ‘brand’.  

, she's maintained a distinct determination to stay true to her roots. Many artists sing about their down-home upbringing as a marketing device, but for Lainey, it's always been the truth - all she needed was three chords to accompany it. 

She grew up in a camper trailer in rural Baskin, Louisiana, and stormed onto the scene with her reflective 2021 single, ‘Things A Man Oughta Know’. The track earned Lainey a No. 1, a Platinum certification and the award for ACM Song of the Year. Alongside this, Lainey also picked up the ACM New Female Artist of the Year prize. 

It didn't take long for Nashville to warm to Lainey's honeyed drawl and traditionally-minded yet contemporary sound. Billboard named Lainey as their Top New Country Artist of 2021, while CMT championed her as the 2022 Breakout Artist of the Year. 

If 2021 was Lainey's take-off, then 2022 saw Lainey rocketing into country's galaxy of modern-day stars. Two successful collaborations set the ball rolling. Her Cole Swindell assisted single, ‘Never Say Never’, became Lainey's second No. 1 in April 2022, while her dark, ominous HARDY duet, ‘wait in the truck’, sent ripples across Radnor Lake and quickly became one of the most notable tracks of the year.

This laid the foundation for the October 2022 release of 

The project spawned singles such as ‘Heart Like A Truck’ and ‘Live Off’, both of which embody the unpretentious, small-town way of life that continues to inspire so much of Lainey's music.

Many artists get started when they’re younger, but Eric Church had a regular gig performing at a local bar in his hometown by the time he was a senior in high school. Despite that, he first went on to study at Appalachian State University before deciding that Nashville was where he ultimately needed to be. 

After moving to Music City post-graduation, Church began writing for other artists before catching the eye of Capitol Nashville. His debut album, Sinners Like Me, was released in 2006 and began a steady output with Carolina (2009), Chief (2011), and The Outsiders (2014) and Mr. Misunderstood (2015) following in quick succession. In 2021, he released his seventh studio LP, Heart & Soul, which was a triple album set.

His third album Chief earned Church the ACM Award and CMA Award for Album of the Year in 2011. He also won the ACM Award for Top New Solo Vocalist.

Around that time, Church founded the charitable organization Chief Cares, which helps underprivileged families in Tennessee and Church’s home state of North Carolina.

Famously, Church’s penchant for big, lively performances got him kicked off Rascal Flatts’ tour in 2006. He regularly went over his allotted time and was warned repeatedly to stop. Eventually, Rascall Flatts traded Church for newcomer Taylor Swift. At the time, Church joked that Swift should send him her first gold record for the increased exposure she got. She eventually did, writing him, “Thanks for playing too long and too loud on the Flatts tour. I sincerely appreciate it. Taylor.”

 EP in June 2022, it became the biggest streaming country debut of all time. Zimmerman also became one of just three country artists to earn over a million streams on each track during street week alone. The other two artists? None other than Luke Combs and Zach Bryan.

It’s sometimes difficult to believe that Bailey Zimmerman is still in his early twenties, and that he’s only been releasing music since 2021. In the space of just over a year, Zimmerman has enjoyed an ascent that has felt so meteoric, that he seems to have already transcended the labels of ‘prodigy’ and ‘prospect’.

‘Fall in Love’, one of the highlights from his 2022 EP, became his first Country Radio No. 1 in December. The single serves as the perfect encapsulation of what makes Zimmerman such a threat. It has the signature rasp and heart-wrenching intensity that pervades much of the project, but - crucially - it is packaged up with a pop-leaning production style that makes it ideal for Country Radio.

The result is a sound that simultaneously straddles both the mainstream and the outer edges of the modern country landscape. Part of Zimmerman’s ability to infiltrate both markets can be traced back to his blue collar roots, having grown up working on a gas pipeline.

Country music comes in many different forms and flavors, and even more so it seems in recent years. While oftentimes you think of acoustic guitars, fiddles and cowboy garb, that isn't all there is to it.

Arguably since its origins, country music has been deeply rooted in rock music with quite the thin line separating the two at times. Towing the line between them are a class of artists that have started to make lots of noise that's been turning a ton of heads, and among them is Big Loud's newest alt-country prodigy, Stephen Wilson Jr..

From southern Indiana, Wilson was influenced early on by the likes of both classic country icons like Johnny Cash and Hank Williams, as well as the giants of classic rock and '90s pioneer bands like Nirvana.

Raised by a single father who was a boxer, Wilson took on the family business at the age of 7 and continued it on through his twenties, eventually becoming an Indiana State Golden Gloves finalist. When it came time for college, he left the cornfields of home in search of a microbiology degree from Middle Tennessee State University. During his senior year, the self-taught guitarist started indie rock band, AutoVaughn, which took him out on the road for the better part of five years and cracked open his love for songwriting.

After leaving the band and returning to his scientific pursuits, Wilson landed a publishing deal with BMG in August of 2016 which has opened the floodgates for the burgeoning entertainer and earned him cuts from Caitlyn Smith and Old Dominion, Tim McGraw, Trace Adkins, Kameron Marlowe, Sixpence None the Richer and more.

Releasing his first string of singles in 2019, including 'billy,' 'the devil,' the award-winning 'Holler From The Holler,' his quintessential 'Year To Be Young 1994' and more, Wilson has been weaving together his signature concoction of indie rock, grunge and country in a cocktail that he calls "Death Cab For Country" ever since.

Wilson inked a recording deal with Big Loud Records in March of 2023 and quickly presented fans with his debut EP, 

, with news of his debut album set to drop in September.

Winning over legions of fans with his emotive performances, skilled guitar prowess and powerful vocals, Wilson is a shining beacon of left-of-center light in the country genre that we will have our eyes on for years to come.

When you hear Ernest's mellow, honeyed vocals, it's hard to believe that he started off his musical career as a rapper. On his 2021 smash hit, ‘Flower Shops’, he has his boots planted firmly in classic country terra firma - but to get there, it’s safe to say that Ernest eschewed the traditional pathway in favour of the scenic route.

The stylistic influences that have shaped Ernest’s chart-topping sound are hugely varied, and they emerge like easter eggs hidden amidst the steel guitars and layered drawl. From his moody, EDM collaboration with Diplo, ‘Bottle’s Bout Dead’, to the retro, Hailey Whitters-assisted tribute to Dolly and Kenny, ‘Islands in the Stream’, Ernest regularly showcases his diverse musical palette.

Ernest’s creative dexterity is clearest when examining his illustrious songwriting track record, having penned hits for a range of country stars. These include Florida Georgia Line (‘I Love My Country’), Sam Hunt (‘Breaking Up Was Easy in the 90’s’), Kane Brown (‘One Mississippi’, ‘Memory’), Thomas Rhett (‘Church Boots’, ‘Paradise’), Chris Lane (‘Big, Big Plans’) and Jelly Roll (‘Son Of A Sinner’).

Ernest has been particularly prolific when writing for his good buddy, Morgan Wallen, having helped to create ‘You Proof’, ‘More Than My Hometown’, ‘Dangerous’, ‘Broadway Girls’ and numerous other hits. With HARDY, the hugely popular trio are considered by many to be the tastemakers of today’s country music scene.

, was a romantic, beachside getaway, with the tropical setting reflecting the paradisal relationship that Ernest celebrates on the record. Highlights such as ‘I Think I Love You’, ‘Sugar’ and ‘All We Need’ helped to build a burgeoning following for the Nashville native.

While some suspected that Ernest would double down on this Buffettian, Gulf and Western sound, at the end of 2021 he shifted gears and dropped his biggest hit to date, ‘Flower Shops’. The Morgan Wallen collaboration felt like the kind of song George Jones would record if he was part of today’s generation of artists, and it marked a clear departure from the idyllic shores of 

. ‘Flower Shops’ went Platinum in November 2022.

, built out this troubled, heartbroken persona, spawning fan-favourites such as ‘Comfortable When I’m Crazy’, ‘Feet Wanna Run’ and ‘What It’s Come To’.
