As the saying goes, everything is bigger in Texas. Fittingly, a new larger-than-life festival is setting down roots in the greater Houston area in May 2024.

The inaugural Big As Texas Festival will be taking over the Montgomery County Fairgrounds from May 10-12, and will be serving up a sizzling roster of country's big hitters all weekend long.

Anchoring the festival's three days will be Thomas Rhett, Billy Strings and Dierks Bentley.

Outside of the illustrious trio of headliners, first-year attendees will be treated to sets from the likes of Midland, Morgan Wade, 49 Winchester, Warren Zeiders, Corey Kent, Maddie & Tae, Anne Wilson, BRELAND and Amanda Shires.

Also set to perform as part of the sprawling 2024 lineup are Drake Milligan, Clay Walker, Dwight Yoakam, The Fearless Flyers, Los Lobos, MacKenzie Porter, Tracy Byrd, Alana Springsteen and more.

With a third of the lineup hailing from the Lone Star State, the Big As Texas Festival looks to honor the integral role that both Americana and country music have played in the history and cultural fabric of the state of Texas.

Attracting more than 50,000 attendees, the weekend will feature over 25 hours of music as more than 35 acts take to the festival's three stages, ranging from modern day superstars to some of the most buzzed about newcomers.

Hosted at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds in Montgomery County, Texas, organizers have shared that 10% of net ticket proceeds from each ticket sold will be donated to nonprofit organizations that promote suicide death prevention both in Montgomery County and across Texas.

Big As Texas Festival 2024

Rhett played music in both junior high and high school. He later chose to study communications at Lipscomb University in Nashville, but the draw of Music City was too much. He eventually dropped out to pursue music full-time. 

Thanks to his songwriting prowess, Rhett landed a publishing deal with Big Machine Label Group. In the early stages of his professional career, he co-wrote singles for Jason Aldean, Florida Georgia Line and Lee Brice, among others.  

arrived in 2013, and two years later he followed it up with 

 His sophomore release was nominated for Album of the Year at the ACM Awards. The single 'Die a Happy Man' from the album would go on to win Single of the Year at the ACMS and Song of the Year at the CMAs. 

. The latter marks the first of a double album release.

In 2020, the ACMs named Rhett Entertainer of the Year, and one year later he earned the title Male Artist of the Year.

Thomas Rhett may stem from country music royalty (he's the son of Rhett Akins, after all), but yet he's still marked his own path.

Dierks Bentley heard Nashville calling from a young age. After visiting the city as a college student in the mid-90s, he transferred from the University of Vermont to Vanderbilt, but it would take several more years before his dream of playing music professionally became a reality.

After signing to Capitol Records, Bentley made a major splash with his first single, ‘What Was I Thinkin’’, off his 2003 self-titled debut album. He hasn’t slowed down since, releasing a staggering number of best-selling albums and no. 1 songs, including 2006’s ‘Every Mile a Memory’, 2009’s ‘Feel That Fire’ and 2012’s ‘Am I the Only One’. 

Although Bentley plays country music, he’s often dabbled in bluegrass – the genre he says he first heard after relocating to Nashville. In 2010, he released a bluegrass album, Up on That Ridge, and later followed it with 2018’s The Mountain - an album heavily influenced by bluegrass’ instrumentation and arrangements.

Not only is Bentley among the youngest musicians ever inducted into the Grand Ole Opry (at 29 years old in 2005), but he’s been nominated for Grammys, CMA Awards, CMT Awards and even won ACM’s Merle Haggard Spirit Award in 2018 for his lengthy and notable career.

Bentley is a country music artist but after dabbling in bluegrass, he received massive recognition at a very young age.

Hailing from Castlewood, Virginia, 49 Winchester have always sought to incorporate the conflicting impulses of both longing for home and longing for the road into their music. Over the course of their four studio albums, the eight-piece band’s Appalachian folk has gradually blossomed into a rockier and more rough-around-the-edges sound.

49 Winchester have patiently built a loyal following over the course of their three independently released albums, which began back in 2014 with their self-titled debut release. This was followed by 

 in 2018, before the trio was completed by 

The band’s mercurial, definition-defying style caught the attention of Nashville’s go-to label for Americana and alt-country music, New West Records.

In 2022, 49 Winchester released their first album with New West, 

. the project received far-reaching acclaim, and served as a celebration of the band’s roots in Virginia.

The playful artwork depicts a coal miner, embodying 49 Winchester’s continued determination to pay homage to the blue collar traditions that have long formed the backbone of country music, as epitomised on ‘Hillbilly Daydream’.

elevated 49 Winchester from regional heroes to national prodigies. Various outlets championed the group for their eclectic mix of influences, with Holler naming the 2022 album as one of its Albums of the Year.

In 2023, 49 Winchester are set to embark on a hotly anticipated tour across the US, which will see them playing in Tennessee, Arizona and more.

Everyone knows that country music's charm lies within its songwriting, and Alana Springsteen figured this out early on in her life.

Picking up one of her grandfather's dusty old guitars at seven and starting to pen her own songs at nine, the Virginia Beach native began making treks to country music's capital at ten years old.

As a pre-teen she was already delving into the craft of co-writing, sharing rooms with writers like Sherrié Austin and Will Rambeaux who embraced the eager young songstress as she began to find her voice as a songwriter.

Four years later at the age of fourteen, she decided to take the leap as she and her family made the move to Nashville. She saw a quick payoff though, landing her first publishing deal almost instantly. As she continued to refine her skills and sharpen her songwriting abilities, as well as familiarize herself behind the soundboard, she landed cuts with Disney actor Asher Angel and country singer Caitlyn Shadbolt, among others.

However, come 2019, it was time for Springsteen to take her own stab at the spotlight. She released her self-titled, debut EP, as well as an accompanying 

 EP that followed shortly thereafter, which helped land her opening slots with the likes of Josh Turner and Filmore.

The young singer-songwriter continued to build up her discography with a new set of projects - 2021's 

 that saw her working with A-list collaborators, including Shane McAnally, Ryan Beaver, Ashley Gorley, Jerry Flowers, Chris LaCorte, Geoff Warburton and more.

Through the pair of EPs, Springsteen began to concoct what’s become her signature blend of honest relatability, breezy intimacy and country-pop sensibilities that ultimately led her to attract the attention of Columbia Records NY and Sony Music Nashville.

Named Pandora's 2021 Country Artist to Watch and a member of CMT’s Next Women of Country Class of 2023, she's now teed up her long awaited full-length, major label debut record,

Given that BRELAND grew up surrounded by gospel music — thanks to his minister parents — it would make sense that his career might trend in that direction. 

But instead he's developed a country sound that integrates elements of trap, hip-hop R&B and soul. Critics call it "country-trap", but BRELAND calls it "cross country". 

After growing up in New Jersey, BRELAND attended Georgetown University, where he performed in an a cappella group and worked on writing his own music. He moved to Atlanta after graduating and learned how to engineer, sharing the tracks he produced on social media. 

Those platforms helped BRELAND amass a following and a serious number of streams, all of which led to a record deal with Bad Realm Records/Atlantic Records. 

Following an eclectic self-titled EP in 2020, BRELAND put out the sobering and emotionally raw 

 EP, which he released in response to the Black Lives Matter protests that spread across the US that summer. 

In 2022, BRELAND released his debut album, 

, which featured collaborations with Thomas Rhett, Keith Urban, Ingrid Andress and more. The project's name captured the sonic mercuriality that has made BRELAND one of the most exciting new voices in country music.

BRELAND is a cross country artist with a sound that integrates elements trap, hip-hop, R&B and soul.

Over the last several decades, country music has become more and more of a fluid genre. Sometimes creeping into pop or rock, country music has also been finding its way into the R&B, rap and bluegrass spaces, while other times it sounds like something else entirely.

While the genre can't be put into a box or be told what to be, there are several artists who have committed themselves to maintaining the traditional sounds and styles of the genre's origin.

One of the artists on that path is Drake Milligan.

Steeped in classic country music and the pulsing energy of vintage rock 'n' roll, Milligan was raised to the soundtracks of both genres and cites the Kings of both – George Strait and Elvis Presley – as his musical heroes.

Fittingly enough, the Texas native got his start in entertainment as an Elvis impersonator, first locally then eventually rising to portraying the beloved Memphis singer on the CMT series 

 in 2017. After landing his big break, Milligan packed his bags and headed for Nashville to chase his own neon-tinged dreams.

and ultimately dropping out in 2018, Milligan dug his heels into the Nashville songwriting community and began to hone his own skills and sound, which melds together old school sensibility with a modern day flair.

Landing a recording contract with BBR Music Group, he issued his self-titled debut EP in July of 2021, which included his breakthrough hit single, 'Sounds Like Something I'd Do' – the same song that earned Milligan his first CMT Music Award nomination for Breakthrough Male Video of the Year.

, the budding entertainer made it all the way to the final three on the talent competition and released his debut album, 

Bringing his own unique cocktail of traditional country with a rock ‘n’ roll chaser, Milligan bridges the gap between the classic roots of the genre’s past with the forward-facing edge of its future.

There’s a clear, driven mission to broaden the scope of mainstream country music, while simultaneously tipping their vogue cowboy hats to a bygone era of the genre. Paradoxically, part of the unique charm of the Midland trio is that there often seems to be a distinct 

 of any mission or ulterior motives. It’s just three cowboys in Austin, Texas jamming out and having a blast together.

, covered a vast amount of sonic territory, but loosely hugged a path between easy-rock and neo-traditional country. The projects spawned a plethora of hits, including the triple-platinum break-out single, ‘Drinkin’ Problem’, a swaggering take on the tear-in-my-beer trope that goes down smoother than a shot of Tennessee Honey.

 in 2021 felt to many like Midland’s first steps outside the stylistic white lines they’d kept to on their previous albums. Along with 

 was a collection of early, demo-esque tracks that captured the playful magic of Midland’s inception.

, which arrived in May 2022, following a 2021 EP of the same name. It’s a concept album that provides an audial, escapist retreat into a tainted, heartbroken world of Floridian motels, funfairs and beachside road-trips. Throughout the project, their light-hearted personas shine through without ever eclipsing the poignance of the mood.

solidified Midland’s status as one of the most versatile, polished and listenable country bands of the modern era.
