Artist - Adam Doleac Holler Live Session 1

Adam Doleac's sound and has indisputably changed in the years since he made his debut in 2017. 

From the soaring country-soul of early hits like 'Whiskey's Fine' to the synth-country that peppers his 2022 debut record 

Doleac has found his place by constantly mixing it up - concocting a cocktail of emotions that, more than anything, shows his flexibility and maturity as a songwriter.

Arriving in London for the first time for his Holler Live Session, the candidness of a stripped-back set such as this allows Doleac to exhibit just how all the songs he writes all possess something in common; heart.

"This first one I'm going to play for you is called 'Coulda Loved You Longer'" Doleac begins. "I wrote this song about my wife - who's here with me today - but also, being in new places and meeting new people, I often feel that way about people I love, or places I love; I wish I could've been there sooner. I'm sure I'm going to feel that way about London".

MacKinnon Morrissey, Doleac's wife, watches on from the side of the bar room. She is the soul that nestles within his songwriting; the love he has for her pours out of his music, actually making his songwriting more accessible and relatable to any situation. 

What's most telling though is how life and love allows Doleac to grow creatively; he thinks outside the box and takes influence from loved ones in a more tangible, expressive way.

"The story behind this one is one of my favourites actually" Doleac continues as he introduces his second song. "I'd just met my girlfriend, now wife, and she was walking down the stairs. My little brother was in town, and he'd only seen her in workout clothes, he hadn't seen her dressed up before" 

"So, she was all dressed up - we were taking him out for his birthday - and she came walking down the stairs, he turned around and said 'damn, you look famous! Normally, I'm supposed to be the famous person or whatever, and I liked that it turned it on her and she looked famous".

"The story would also be better if I was the one telling my girlfriend that she looked famous" he laughs, "but it was my brother - that's the truth - and that's how i got this title. It ended up being my first gold record as a country artist, so thank you for that!"

While some of the sounds on Doleac's debut record may be different from his earlier recordings, when he plays an older hit like 'Whiskey's Fine', you recognise the lineage that's led him to writing something like 'Drinkin' It Wrong' or even 'Close That Tab'. His songs have become tall boys of country soul with a little zesty tequila-pop on top, and we're going to keep on sippin'.

"I'm hanging out at the pub with Holler, having a good ol time" Catie Offerman laughs as she introduces herself at the beginning of her Holler Live Session. 

The first thing you'll observe about the Texan native is that the bubbly, witty charm that comes across in her music is no character acting - it permeates through her, her at-ease breeziness bleeding into not only the way she performs, but how she writes songs in the first place.

A technically deft musician, Offerman has reached that next level of being able to evolve her ability into producing captivating and emotionally layered songs. 

If you took the happy-go-lucky sentimentality of George Strait's more affable moments and mixed it with Sheryl Crow and Shania Twain's free-wheeling shrewdness in lyricism, you'll just begin to scratch the surface of understanding Offerman's style.

"I'm from Texas; where I'm from, we've got a lot of cowboys, so it's only fitting that I sing this song" Catie Offerman explains ahead of performing 'Ok Cowboy', the first song of her Holler Live Session. It's an unquestionably sharp and cool kiss off of a song, as Offerman lets the stetson-wearing rodeo king know this ain't her first rodeo. 

It's the way Offerman weaves her keen lyricism into such warm-hearted melodies that really hits home, and it's no different when she approaches heartbreak. 

By it's title, Offerman's latest single, 'I Just Killed A Man', may sound like a mid-2000s murder ballad in the key of Earl, but it's actually a crushing admission of knowing you're going to break someone's heart by ending things. Even though Offerman hasn't killed someone, that hurt is still going to weigh on her shoulders, even though it's for the best.

"It doesn't matter what side of the world you live on, we've all either broken up or been broken up with, and this is just another way of saying it". That matter of fact self-awareness belies just how enveloping Offerman's songwriting really is, and in the intimate setting of her Holler Live Session, it's on display for us all to enjoy.

Artist - Paris Adams 1

Our first British country act of this series is one of the rising stars across the pond.

Formerly a founding member of country trio The Adelaides, Paris Adams has set out on her own, releasing her debut solo single 'Gold', all whilst also making memorable appearances at C2C Festival and Song Suffragettes London in the first few months of 2023.

It's no surprise Adams' solo career is kicking off in such a positive direction - her rich, layered songwriting is equally enigmatic and candid, the songwriter finding solace in exploring all manner of genres to mould her sound, rather than just the country template.

Joining us on a Thursday afternoon at The Betsey Trotwood, Paris offers us an early sneak peek into what we should expect from her in the future, as well as an unreserved and harmonious performance of her aforementioned first statement, 'Gold'.

If it wasn't already clear, boy are we excited about 

Holler's favourite group out of Russell County, Virginia came onto our radar with the release of their 2022 album, 

It's concoction of wistful Americana, country rock and soul spoke immediately to our hearts, cementing itself high on our 

The band, led by the indefatigable voice of Isaac Gibson, wear everything on their sleeve; whether it's when documenting plaintive memories of home or propping up the bar stool until everyone else has dropped - the sweat, blood and 

 of their sound is there for everyone to hear. 

Joining us at The Betsey Trotwood pub for their Holler Live Session, the group offer us a distinctly unique set up for this particular round. While not performing in their traditional full-band set up, they are not completely stripped back - performing their three songs with the gruff and full bodied nature of their live set, with the aid of electric guitars.

, fits the mood inside the bedecked walls of the Betsey pub. A lilting, combative number, Gibson battles with the demons of where you come from, even though you moved away. Yearning for release as the band waltz through it's interlude, Gibson ends with a yelp; "Long as that neon stays on, I've always got a place to call home".

Next is 'Annabel', one of their most emotionally demanding and evocative numbers. In the pub, it bristles in it's minor chords; the playfulness of Isaac and Bus' guitars with Chase's bass lines offering a little hope at the end of the line for what's to come; "And I guess I'll just give it a shot now /
Try to make it on my own"

Finishing their session with the pensive 'Hays, Kansas', the group show exactly why everyone's getting so excited about them. An exasperated song, full of regret, the songwriting is raw and uncompromising. Isaac even offers a more subdued, pensive delivery to match the defeat that lingers in not knowing who are, or having to go back to a town where you mould into the foundations.

It's a thoroughly compelling and exuberant performance - the band finding the sweet spot between playful sonic creativity and gnawing, sentimental songwriting.
