The rollout for Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit's eagerly anticipated new album, Weathervanes, is picking up the pace.

The country-rock mavericks have released the second single from the upcoming project, ‘Middle Of The Morning’, which follows on from February's electrifying ‘Death Wish’.

Written by Isbell during lockdown, ‘Middle of the Morning’ once again draws on the melancholic palette that ‘Death Wish’ was painted with, but strips back the tempo and production.

Speaking ahead of the release, Isbell underlined that the song was inspired by a significant amount of introspection, “It was about trying to keep my mind from unraveling over the couple of years there”.

Underpinning the soulful track is a sense of peace and serenity, despite the lyrics zeroing in on Isbell's metaphorical cabin fever (“Well I’ve tried to open up my window and let the light come in / I step outside in the middle of the morning and in the evening again”).

The release follows the announcement that HBO Max will be premiering a new documentary about Jason Isbell on April 7, entitled ‘Jason Isbell: Running with Our Eyes Closed’.

It'll undoubtedly be a must-watch film for avid fans of Isbell, and it promises to delve into the creative process behind Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit's acclaimed Reunions album in 2020.

In addition, it'll offer an insightful exploration of Jason Isbell's troubled childhood, along with his battles with addiction.
