'You For A Reason' by Warren Zeiders – Lyrics & Meaning

It hasn't been long since Warren Zeiders dropped his latest record, Relapse, a late summer release that saw the artist reflecting on addiction, pain, a past rife with missteps but a future full of hope. Already, the 'Pretty Little Poison' star has begun gifting fans with even more new music. This time, it's just as personal.

His latest offering comes in the form of 'You For A Reason', a deceptively endearing ballad that actually harbors a pretty melancholic truth: all good things must come to an end.

Throughout the track, 'You For A Reason' has that emotive country sound, flush with moaning steel and grief-stricken guitar. The sombre tune builds, its opening strings soon layered with thundering drums and Zeiders' earth-shattering croon for a gut-punch of a goodbye song.

"Them winters will wear on a cowboy
And there's only so much you can do
I was lonesome as leaves when the trees laid them down
Until I looked up and laid eyes on you"

'You For A Reason' finds the artist in a cold, desolate season of his life – lost, lonesome and looking for a light in the darkness. By the end of the first verse, he seems to have found some respite in a woman.

He was experiencing a time in his life where he "needed a woman to hold me / An angel to know me." He found just that.

In this way, 'You For A Reason' sets up a beautiful and heartwarming ballad. That is, until the truth is revealed. He sings, "Girl even if it was just for a season / It was you for a reason."

In other words, the comfort he found in this person was only temporary, but her presence had a purpose.

If only for a moment, he found someone to understand him, to hear him, to make him feel seen. While the relationship didn't last, her support and the momentary relief she provided will likely stay with him always.

"I wrote this song over a year ago about a girl who came into my life and changed it for the better," Zeiders shared of the new track in a post on social media. "She pushed me in ways to make me better as a man in my everyday life and in my career. Things didn’t end the way we would of hoped, but I wouldn’t change it for anything. She came into my life only for a season, but it was her for a reason."
