It was a sweltering day at London's BST Hyde Park, with the sun beating down on around 65,000 fans desperately waving their cowboy hats and ‘Godspeed’ truckers in an attempt to find some brief respite. But then, as Zach Bryan sauntered onto the stage to the tune of the Star Spangled Banner, adorned in a cut-off Ozzy Osbourne tee, all concerns about the weather and the heat immediately evaporated.

Marking the Oklahoma megastar's biggest show to date, Zach Bryan acknowledged the significance of the occasion throughout his set, with Bryan endearingly gushing, “We love you, London”, at every opportunity, and charmingly replacing virtually every place-name in his songs with “London” or “Hyde Park”. As he looked out at the sea of adoring fans, he gushed, “This is a dream come true for me”.

With Zach Bryan announcing just hours before taking the stage that he would be releasing a brand new song that he'd penned four days ago, ‘Streets of London‘, on Monday, fans were wondering if we might get to hear the live debut of his mysterious track.

Zach Bryan didn't disappoint, with the country-folk titan treating the packed-out, fervent UK crowd to the first ever performance of his forthcoming track. Before launching into the wistful, homesick offering, Bryan modestly joked, “If I mess this up, you guys can boo us off stage. I promise, we'll be okay”. We're hoping ‘Streets of London’ will appear on the ‘28’ hitmaker's new album, Motorbreath, with Bryan confirming he's recording some of the project in the city this week.

It's difficult to pick the stand-out tracks, with almost every song being greeted by a delirious, beers-in-the-air roar from the crowd. The raucous, galvanising ‘Oklahoma Smokeshow’, ‘Dawns’, ‘Heavy Eyes’, ‘Motorcycle Drive By’, ‘Quittin’ Time’ and ‘Open the Gate’ felt like they were sung back to Zach Bryan with an added sense of gusto.

Elsewhere during his live-wire set, Zach Bryan brought out his good friend and opener, Dermot Kennedy, for a beautifully intricate rendition of his 2023 fan-favourite, ‘Hey Driver’.

As has become tradition, Zach Bryan also brought out a fan - Ollie Hawkins - to perform his early hit, ‘Heading South’. These impromptu duets can be hit-and-miss, but Hawkins delivered a stellar, evocative take on the yearning, nostalgic track in Hyde Park.

Partway during his set, Zach Bryan donned his signature, disbelieving grin and mused, “Isn’t country music the most beautiful thing in the world?” After this show, it's hard not to agree. Bryan returns tonight (Sunday, June 29th) for night two at BST Hyde Park.
