When it comes to his hit song 'Something in the Orange', Zach Bryan has recently changed his tune or, rather, altered the origin story behind the classic number.

During a stop on his Quittin' Time tour, the hitmaker shared a very different backstory for the fan-favorite, telling crowds the song was born from a much less remarkable instance than what was originally detailed.

In a past interview with Apple Music, he, at first, explained, “Everyone thinks it was over some deep, dark thing, and it was just me in a cabin in Wisconsin. I thought about the word ‘orange’ and I was watching the sunset, and I was like, ‘Oh, that’s a cool story to tell in a song’”.

During his most recent on-stage explanation, however, gone was the cabin in Wisconsin as was the sunset-fueled inspiration.

In fan-captured footage, he can, instead, be heard detailing: "Everyone thinks ‘Something In The Orange’ is some deeply rooted song. One time, I got stood up on a date, and I wrote it. That’s the whole story."

Bryan recently did something similar with his The Great American Bar Scene favorite, '28', tweaking the story behind the gratitude-filled offering.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter) after the album's July release, he originally revealed ‘28’ was inspired by his dog, Boston, and then-girlfriend Brianna LaPaglia. He wrote, “Boston our puppy was going into surgery and I told Brianna “how lucky are we?” to have -had- a puppy so beautiful and she came out of it just fine, I wrote it the next day because I felt like the luckiest man on the planet”.

After their heated breakup, however, Bryan took LaPaglia out of the picture entirely, recently telling fans, "I wrote this song because one night me and all the boys were bowling in New York City, and I felt lucky to have each and every one of them. And I was so glad to be alive, I wrote a song called ’28.’"

These songs' backstories may have changed, but they're no less hit tunes, ones concert-goers will get to experience for a final few times as his Quittin' Time trek begins to wind down. The tour's final leg will span a bit of December, before coming to a close with a two-night stay at Brooklyn's Barclays Center.

After wrapping, Bryan has several shows on his 2025 calendar, spending the summer making appearances at New York's MetLife Stadium, San Francisco's Golden Gate Park and Phoenix Park in Dublin, Ireland on what he has dubbed his 2025 World Summer Shows.

While he announced he would be taking a break from the road following his Quittin' Time tour, Bryan seems to be changing his tune once again.
