Zac Brown has received the first ever Veterans Voice Award at the 2025 American Music Awards in Las Vegas, with the ceremony aptly falling on Memorial Day.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight ahead of being given the prestigious accolade, Brown reflected on how much it means to him to be recognised for serving those who serve the country, “It's great, man. Honored to get to work with the veterans, but the main thing I'm excited about because of this award is that it brings attention back to them and our thoughts to them...It's not about me, it's about honoring them and helping them to get their resources, to get the tools they need to help them to heal, and have successful families and transition back home”.
He expanded by paying tribute to the AMAs for inviting a host of veterans to the star-studded Las Vegas ceremony, “Yeah, it's a big deal. It's such a cool thing to do on Memorial Day for them as well. We owe them a lot. It's an incredible place to get to live and we feel safe and free here because of what they've sacrificed for us”.
Elsewhere during his chat, Brown touched on the work his foundation carries out for those in military service, “It's incredible. We built a campus down in Georgia called Camp Southern Ground, where we serve a lot of veterans there and that's the reason they were doing it, and it's great because it brings awareness to that. It brings awareness, just when people see a veteran just to stop them and say, ‘Hey, thank you. Thank you for what you've done for us, thank you for your service’”.
During the summer months, Camp Southern Ground acts as a residential camp for children and teenagers, with the site then serving veterans throughout the rest of the year. Brown also works extensively with the non-profit foundation, Hope for the Warriors, which provides a plethora of essential services and aid for military families.
The Veterans Voice Award has been introduced in 2025 to “spotlight artists who have used their platforms to make meaningful, lasting impacts in the lives of Veterans”.
During the pre-show Red Carpet, Zac Brown stepped out with his girlfriend, Kendra Scott, for the first time, with Brown sharing on Instagram, “Hit the @amas red carpet with the best date by my side.💙 Ready to soak it all in and have some fun tonight!”
It's Brown and Scott's debut public appearance together, with the Zac Brown Band frontman embroiled in a high-profile divorce from Kelly Yazdi over the past couple of years.
The band are currently gearing up to release their long-awaited new album, which will mark their first full-length body of work since 2021's lauded project, The Comeback. The Zac Brown Band dropped the feel-good, sun-soaked No Wake Zone EP in September.
