Ahead of the arrival of his Where I've Been, Isn't Where I'm Going deluxe album this Friday (April 25th), Shaboozey has shared a snippet of his forthcoming Jelly Roll duet, ’Amen’.
Taking to social media, the ‘A Bar Song (Tipsy)’ hitmaker has offered listeners a brief clip of the star-studded collaboration, which finds Shaboozey and Jelly Roll trading candid, heartfelt verses about seeking salvation after a challenging period of time.
Shaboozey mournfully croons, “Somebody say a prayer for me / 'Cause the pills ran out and I still can't sleep / Somebody send a word upstairs / 'Cause the bar shut down and I'm God knows where / Oh, so knock on Heaven's door / Smiling ain't working anymore / Somebody say a prayer for me / All I'm asking for is a little mercy / Amen”.
So far, it feels like these bonus tracks that are being tagged onto the end of 2024's Where I've Been, Isn't Where I'm Going explore the sobering come-down of the protagonist from ‘A Bar Song (Tipsy)’. While that record-breaking single found Shaboozey attempting to numb his pain through alcohol, ‘Amen’ follows a character who is trying to ease his mind when there is no bar to run to and no pills to lean on.
Jelly Roll is undoubtedly the perfect choice for this bittersweet ode, with the ‘Need a Favor’ singer-songwriter regularly infusing spiritually-minded imagery into his rousing anthems. Earlier in the year, for instance, Jelly teamed up with Contemporary Christian trailblazer, Brandon Lake, for the spellbinding ‘Hard Fought Hallelujah’.
It follows another stellar collaboration, ‘Blink Twice’ with UK chart-topper Myles Smith, which is also set to appear on Where I've Been, Isn't Where I'm Going: The Complete Edition.
In tandem with ‘Blink Twice’, ‘Amen’ and November's ‘Good News’, the deluxe album will see Shaboozey joining forces with Sierra Ferrell for ‘Hail Mary’. In addition, fans will be able to hear two never-heard-before offerings, ‘Fire And Gasoline’ and ‘Chrome’.
