Two Step Inn was abuzz first thing Sunday (April 21), the crowd flocking to the main stage to witness a star-in-the-making take his place as a ready-made hit. Wyatt Flores may have been early on the bill but the ‘West of Tulsa’ artist was no less among the acts to see at the Georgetown, Texas festival.
Flores’ performance brimmed with tunes from his past several months of success, including those from his brand-new Half Life EP which dropped Friday (April 19). Fans already knew these offerings, such as ‘Runnin’ Out of Time’ and ‘I Believe in God’, by heart, singing along to every vulnerable word.
Kicking off with the devastating 'Orange Bottles', Flores had the crowd captivated from the jump. “I’m nervous as all get-out,” he admitted to the audience soon after, telling them it had been a couple of weeks since he had played his guitar on stage and he wasn’t expecting so many people to be present.
Those nerves, however, never showed, his performance precise and powerful throughout.
In between songs, he also shared that the night before he had been the best man at his best friend’s wedding, saying how special of moment it was. He explained that while there, he saw the girl who he wrote his song ‘Wish I Could Stay’ about, before launching into an emotional display of the hit, one made all the more potent after his experience the night prior.
The majority of the performance went on in this way, punctuated by deeply personal moments that were then followed by shell-shocking showcases of some beautifully intimate songs.
In closing, the artist led the crowd in a chorus of his opus ‘West of Tulsa’ and, with voices raised, fans gave Flores a big Texas farewell.
