It's two years to the day (Saturday, December 20th 2025), when we got one of the most unexpected yet exhilarating link-ups in modern music. Drake dropped the official music video for his For All The Dogs: Scary Hours Edition stand-out, ’You Broke My Heart’, with the curtain opening on the Toronto rapper enjoying a meal with Morgan Wallen.

At first, we had to rub our eyes. Was that really Wallen?! Our ‘boy from East Tennessee’? In a Drake video? It was a seismic moment, both because of how left-field it was, and because of how these were two of contemporary music's most influential artists.

Once we'd enjoyed the endearing rapport between Wallen and Drake, and rewatched the amusing video a few (hundred) times, the broader implications started to set in.

Despite being widely judged to have lost his rap battle with Kendrick Lamar last year, Drake remains one of the cleverest and most meticulous artists in today's musical landscape. His recent ICEMAN live-streams have epitomised this, with the ‘God's Plan’ hitmaker sprinkling in an array of easter eggs regarding his next body of work.

As a result, we struggle to believe that the man affectionately known as ‘The Boy’ would simply recruit Wallen for this cameo as a one-off. We think it was an early clue and a tantalising teaser that the duo have a blockbuster collaboration up their sleeves.

It's been two years, but in recent months, we've seen more easter eggs than ever suggesting there's music on the way from the duo. First, there was the mysterious ‘Interlude’ on Wallen's expansive May album, I'm the Problem, which explores a brooding, neo-R&B sound and only lasts around a minute. Almost immediately after it dropped, the Sneedville native hinted he was preparing an extended version, and the sonics of this track feel tailor-made for Drake. Charlie Handsome's wife, Marissa Sarder, even posted on Instagram calling for Drake to get on the track, and given the fact that Handsome is the producer, it feels like an extended take on ‘Interlude’ is our best bet of a Drake and Wallen collaboration.

But there's more. Drake joined forces with Wallen for a second time in Houston this summer for his pre-show walk-out, and then, during Drake's Berlin show a few months later, he donned a custom jersey with Wallen's I'm the Problem artwork on the back.

There have also been a few back-and-forths via social media, most notably Wallen's eye-catching comment on Drake's August post, complimenting a new merchandise t-shirt, which featured what seems to be a lyric, “I Miss You A Little Bit More Tonight”. Could this be a line from their long-rumoured collaboration?

If it was, given the fact that Drake was the one who shared this post, it would seemingly be relating to a song on his forthcoming album, ICEMAN, which is expected to drop in early 2026 - perhaps one with a momentous Wallen guest verse or hook.

Drake famously has his sights set on overtaking Michael Jackson as the male solo artist with the most No. 1s on the Billboard Hot 100, and few artists are as dominant as Wallen when it comes to consistently taking the top spot on that coveted all-genre chart.

They sing a few lines from an unknown song at the start of the ‘You Broke My Heart’ video, which appears to be called, ‘I'm Kinda Glad She's Gone’. At the time, we thought this could be some kind of unreleased collaboration, but judging by the story told by Tracker - Wallen's former manager - as to how the video shoot came about, it seems Wallen and Drake hadn't had any prior communication.

He went on to stress that, since that shoot, they've had each others numbers, and we're hoping that text chain has been flooded with samples, demos and potential song ideas.

We should caveat all this by pointing out that there is the added complication, however, of Drake's thorny relationship with his label, Universal. Since his beef with fellow Universal artist, Kendrick - during which Drake alleges Universal sided with his nemesis, and used bots and various other underhand methods to inflate the streaming numbers of ‘Not Like Us’ - the rap titan has been making a point of not collaborating with Universal artists. Now, Wallen isn't strictly a Universal artist, because he's signed with indie label Big Loud Records, but he does have a distribution deal with Republic, one of the major Universal imprints.

We're hoping this won't deter Drake from working with Wallen, and the fact that he appeared during his walk-out and showed love to him via his clothing in Berlin seemingly suggests he doesn't have an issue teaming up with the country trailblazer.

We're hoping today's anniversary of that fateful, explosive ‘You Broke My Heart’ video will encourage Drake and Wallen to accelerate the rollout of their long-teased collaboration - if they do, indeed, already have one recorded. We don't mind if it's the extended version of ’Interlude’ or a feature on Drake's next album, ICEMAN. We just know that, once these icons collide and drop some music together, good luck to anyone trying to hit No. 1 on the Hot 100 for the foreseeable future...
