In a heartfelt Instagram post, Ella Langley has confirmed that she'll be stepping away from her hectic tour schedule throughout August, so the Alabama native can recuperate.
Langley explained, “I’m so sad to be posting this. The past several weeks have been tough. I’ve been fighting sickness and feeling more run down that ever. After a lot of thought, I’ve made the hard decision to take a couple of weeks to rest and focus on my health - mind, body, and heart...I want to be fully present for all the moments ahead, and I know I can’t do that without first taking care of myself. Sometimes we have to listen when our bodies and hearts are telling us to slow down”.
She concluded by quoting a Bible verse that reflects on how Jesus offers rest, “I’m so grateful for your understanding and your love - it truly means the world to me. ‘Come to me all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.’ Matthew 11:28”.
In the next slide, Langley confirms all of her August sets have been cancelled, starting with her double-header opening for Morgan Wallen in Cleveland, Ohio this Friday and Saturday.
The priority is undoubtedly for Ella Langley to get the rest she needs, and we're glad the ‘you look like you love me’ hitmaker has made the difficult decision to prioritise her wellbeing.
Nonetheless, fans were left wondering who will be replacing Langley on Wallen's two tour-stops at Cleveland's Huntington Bank Field. With the Sneedville megastar's I'm the Problem run one of the biggest tours in North America this year, there was surely no shortage of acts vying for a coveted spot on this weekend's bill. Gavin Adcock has now been unveiled as Langley’s replacement for the Ohio double-header.
Before Adcock was revealed as the new opener, fans were speculating as to who could step in for Langley. The majority of the openers that have joined Wallen so far across his tour were unavailable this Friday and Saturday. Koe Wetzel, Corey Kent and Thomas Rhett have shows across those two dates, while Anne Wilson is booked for Friday.
Wilson was seemingly free for Saturday's show, but we imagined Wallen and the team would be looking to book the same artist across both nights, to make things easier logistically.
Morgan Wallen's closest buddies in the music world, HARDY, ERNEST and Bailey Zimmerman, were all occupied on both Friday and Saturday with their own tour-stops, so none of them would have been able to answer a last-minute call to link-up with Wallen.
Eric Church looked to have a free weekend, but while The Chief is close friends with his ‘Number 3 and Number 7’ collaborator, we suspected they'd be saving this duet for a surprise cameo later in the tour, with Church too big a name to be second support.
One artist that did have a free Friday and Saturday night is Gavin Adcock, who previously joined forces with Morgan Wallen for his blockbuster Miami, Florida shows in July. Now, Adcock drops his eagerly anticipated new album, Own Worst Enemy, on Friday, so we weren’t sure if he might already have some celebratory events planned for that night.
But, at the same time, you couldn’t help but feel this could be serendipitous for Gavin Adcock and his crew. For a country artist, it doesn't get much bigger than performing with Morgan Wallen in a packed-out football stadium, and this could be the perfect way to give the arrival of Own Worst Enemy an additional boost of momentum.
Shortly after Langley’s announcement, Adcock was indeed confirmed as her replacement for both Cleveland, Ohio shows this weekend.
