During a pre-ACM Awards press conference, Ella Langley has delved into her now-signature brand and style, with the ‘nicotine’ hitmaker teasing that she’ll never be able to lose her beloved bangs.
Ella Langley has forged a path towards the upper echelon of modern country in recent months, with the Alabama native cementing herself as a future Entertainer of the Year candidate. For now, Langley has to be content with New Female Artist of the Year, with the ‘You Look Like You Love Me’ chart-topper being presented with the coveted accolade via a surprise video message from Miranda Lambert.
Ella Langley led the way in terms of nominations ahead of the ACM Awards, with a whopping tally of eight. As well as New Female Artist, Langley has also taken home an early ACM Visual Media of the Year gong for ‘You Look Like You Love Me’ with Riley Green.
The viral anthem - which was crowned Holler’s Song of the Year for 2024 - features a Western-inspired set of visuals, starring Ella Langley and Riley Green as two lovers that find themselves embroiled in a wonderfully old-school saloon gunfight.
During her press conference, Ella Langley has joked that it was this music video that sparked Riley Green’s distinctive look, “I will tell you, everyone’s excited about Riley’s moustache, you can thank me for Riley’s moustache, other than God, I guess, and his parents. The ‘You Look Like You Love Me’ music video, I co-directed that, and I just knew I wanted it to be an old Western. One thing about my dad, he was watching old Westerns and war movies on Sundays after church”.
Langley goes on, “And so I just grew up watching them, and I love them, and it really does feel like…when I was listening to the song, I just thought of it in a bar, kind of how an old Western is. I told Riley that he could not shave his moustache off - at least for the music video. So here we are still a year later he has it, it’s great. I don’t think he can get rid of the ‘stache, either. We’re stuck this way”.
As for her own trailblazing style, which has become hugely popular courtesy of her unmistakable bangs, Ella Langley light-heartedly admits she won’t be trying a different haircut anytime soon, “I do not think I can get rid of the bangs! I don’t think I would now, it really does fit my face. It’s funny, now that I see myself without them, I’m like, ‘Ugh, who is that?’ Plus, who needs botox when you have bangs”.
Ella Langley and Riley Green - who continue to be the subject of conjecture as fans long for the duo to turn their on-screen chemistry into a real-life romance - are in the middle of the Damn Country Music Tour, with the duo joining forces each night to perform ‘You Look Like You Love Me’ and the stripped-back ‘Don’t Mind If I Do’.
