During her momentous PATTERNS album launch concert in Madison Square Garden, Kelsea Ballerini treated the packed-out crowd to an array of stand-outs from her new project.
At its heart, PATTERNS is about the healing journey, and there's no question that the New York audience brought the compassion Kelsea Ballerini sings about throughout the record to this show - as was epitomised during Kelsea's live rendition of ‘Penthouse’.
Given how candidly Kelsea Ballerini delves into her divorce on ‘Penthouse’, this always represents a vulnerable moment in the Knoxville crooner's set, but the lyric “I bought the house with a fence / Enough room for some kids, a backyard for Dibs”, referring to Kelsea's beloved dog, Dibs, carried extra poignance in Madison Square Garden.
In August, Kelsea revealed that Dibs had been diagnosed with “inoperable cancer in his heart”. Named after her 2015 single, Dibs has been a part of Kelsea's family for nine years, and when it came to this line in ‘Penthouse’, she broke down in tears.
Heartwarmingly, the Madison Square Garden crowd had Kelsea Ballerini's back, as they proceeded to sing the rest of the verse and part of the ‘Penthouse’ hook while the ‘Half of My Hometown’ hitmaker stepped away from the microphone and steadied herself.
This sweet show of support epitomised what the PATTERNS era is all about - being there for one another, being there for yourself, and not being afraid to put your emotions on display.
Kelsea Ballerini's Instagram fan-page, Kelsea Central, has created the ‘#DonateForDibs’ fundraiser, which aims to collect funds for the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, and to get Dibs a brick at in the ‘Angel's Rest’ building of the Utah-based institution.
Elsewhere during Kelsea Ballerini's New York performance, the country chart-topper offered a stunning, stripped-back rendition of the fan-favourite, ‘To The Men Who Love Women After Heartbreak’. Although not included on the original tracklist, the endearing ode is available as a bonus song as part of the digital download of PATTERNS.
In addition, Kelsea Ballerini treated the fervent crowd to energising, rousing performances of highlights from the lauded new album, such as ‘Beg For Your Love’, ‘This Time Last Year’ and ‘Baggage’. Kelsea will embark on her 2025 arena tour in January.
