Parker McCollum has closed out his set at the Commander in Chief Ball for Donald Trump's inauguration with a moving cover of Toby Keith's ‘Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue’.
Keith's 2002 anthem has blossomed into a battle-cry for many Americans since its release, with the country hitmaker's death in 2024 instigating a resurgence in popularity. Given the pomp, ceremony and patriotic messaging that has pervaded all the inauguration events, this felt like an apt song choice from Parker McCollum.
The Texan introduced the song by stressing how honoured he was to have been asked to perform as part of President Trump's inauguration celebration, “It is no small deal to be here tonight, we do not take it for granted. I hope this song fires you up”.
Parker McCollum, who showcased his stellar vocals once again after facing accusations of using Auto-Tune from Oliver Anthony in December, also treated those in attendance at the Commander in Chief Ball to an array of chart-toppers as part of his setlist.
The ‘Hell of a Year’ singer-songwriter delivered energising renditions of fan-favourites such as ‘To Be Loved By You’, ‘Handle On You’, ‘Pretty Heart’ and his latest single, ‘What Kinda Man’, which is expected to feature on McCollum's keenly awaited new album.
Elsewhere during the inauguration festivities, Jason Aldean performed an hour-long set at the Liberty Ball, while Carrie Underwood offered an a cappella take on ‘America the Beautiful’ during Donald Trump's swearing-in ceremony. In addition, the likes of Billy Ray Cyrus, Rascal Flatts, Lee Greenwood and Gavin DeGraw all performed.
