After sending us on a ‘snipe hunt’ by leaving a trail of cryptic clues across social media, Tyler Childers has now revealed the official tracklist for his new album, Snipe Hunter.
The project, which arrives on July 25th, will feature the already-released singles, ‘Nose On The Grindstone’ and ‘Oneida’, two beloved tracks written in the early stages of Childers’ career that fans have been clamouring for him to release for years.
In addition, we'll finally be able to stream ‘Cuttin’ Teeth’, which the Kentucky maverick performed during his Rustin’ in the Rain album release show at Grimey's in Nashville back in 2023. Fans were surprised it didn't make it onto the tracklist for that project, but thankfully, ‘Cuttin’ Teeth’ will finally be dropping on July 25th.
As was expected, the new project will feature ‘Snipe Hunt’, which Tyler Childers first performed in 2018, with this track serving as the inspiration behind the forthcoming album's title. The record has been produced in collaboration with the revered Rick Rubin.
Also appearing on Snipe Hunter is ’Eatin’ Big Time’, an apparent nod to the phrase Childers has used in relation to the success he and his Food Stamps band have enjoyed, with the acronym ‘EBT’ (Electronic Benefits Transfer) being another term for ’Food Stamps’ - as well as ‘Getting To The Bottom’, ‘Bitin’ List’, ‘Watch Out’, ‘Down Under’, ‘Poachers’, ‘Tirtha Yatra’, ‘Tom Cat And A Dandy’ and ‘Dirty Ought Trill’.
‘Tirtha Yatra’ seems to be a reference to the holy pilgrimage in Hinduism, with the intention of connecting with a divine being and purifying oneself. Earlier in the year, Childers was spotted in India, seemingly travelling there for the Kumbh Mela festival.
While this new announcement - which first arrived via Childers’ Hickman Holler Hunting Club Instagram page - has sparked widespread excitement among fans, many have also expressed their disappointment that ‘Jersey Giant’ is not on the tracklist.
This has been a longstanding fan-favourite, with Childers first penning the track over a decade ago, but never releasing an official version. The ‘In Your Love’ crooner performed ’Jersey Giant’ with a full band for the first time in April 19th, 2025, and given the fact that he has included other early gems such as ‘Nose On The Grindstone’ and ‘Oneida’ on Snipe Hunter, we were hoping ‘Jersey Giant’ might at last be getting a streaming release. But alas, it is nowhere to be seen.
We're starting to wonder if Tyler Childers’ has intentionally led his fans up the garden path, so to speak, especially bearing in mind a ‘Snipe Hunt’ is exactly this - a wild goose chase, a mission people are sent on in search of a creature that doesn't exist. Perhaps, in this instance, that elusive, fictitious being is the ‘Jersey Giant’.
We are still holding out hope that ’Jersey Giant’ may still one day get a proper release. In the meantime, we're not letting it dampen our sense of anticipation ahead of Snipe Hunter, which is shaping up to be one of the biggest projects of the year so far.
