Tyler Childers is really treating us in 2025. Not only did the ‘Lady May’ hitmaker finally gift us an official studio version of ‘Nose on the Grindstone’, but Childers has now confirmed he'll be releasing another fan-favourite, ‘Oneida’, on Wednesday, July 2nd.
The Kentucky native first performed ‘Oneida’ back in 2016 as part of his now-fabled Red Barn Radio set, with listeners clamouring for an official release for the best part of ten years.
Taking to social media, the ‘Feathered Indians’ singer-songwriter has revealed ’Oneida’ will be the next song to be released from his eagerly anticipated new album, Snipe Hunter.
The full project drops on July 25th, with ‘Oneida’ set to be joined on the Rick Rubin-produced record by ‘Nose on the Grindstone’, which was surprise-released earlier in June.
The exciting new announcement was shared by both Childers and his Hickman Holler Hunting Club Instagram page, with the latter gushing, “It’s finally here! “Oneida” out next Wednesday, July 2nd on all platforms”. It's not yet clear how this fantastical society plays into the overarching concept of Snipe Hunter, but there are a host of fan theories emerging based on Easter Eggs in the new album's artwork.
‘Oneida’ follows a protagonist who embraces an impassioned relationship with an older woman, with Childers crooning longingly across the sparse instrumental, “I lay here awake and I laugh at her jokes / She is referencing movies I'm too young to know / And I'm letting her lead as we dance in the dark / Oh girl, I'm falling in love”.
Listeners suspected ’Oneida’ might be appearing on the Snipe Hunter tracklist when Tyler Childers shared a trailer video for the project a couple of weeks ago. In the visuals, the same character from Childers’ 2022 ‘Angel Band’ can be seen getting a haircut ahead of a meeting with the mysterious Hickman Holler Hunting Club.
As he exits, he hears the barber call out the name, ‘Oneida’, which leads to the man exchanging a fretful glance with a woman we assume is Oneida. We're hoping Childers might build out this plot and drop a full music video alongside the song next week.
