After sprinkling a series of teasers across his socials over the past few days, Tyler Childers has confirmed many fans’ suspicions by announcing a brand new single, ‘In Your Love’.
The hotly anticipated song was made available everywhere on Thursday, July 27 at 8am ET. The ‘Lady May’ songsmith accompanied the unveiling with a short video clip, taken from the official music video for ‘In Your Love’, which dropped at the same time as the song.
Opening with an elderly gentlemen ploughing his field and discovering a lucky four-leaf clover, the video then cuts to a group of miners. The heartbreaking video pivots around two male lovers, who face a variety of hardships and stigma, before their story eventually comes to a tragic end. By the video's conclusion, we realise the old man at the start of the clip is actually the surviving lover.
Tyler makes an appearance towards the end of the visuals as a dive-bar performer. The sweet, reflective song features a serene combination of wistful keys and a weighty guitar, while Tyler's distinctive vocals glide powerfully across the instrumental.
‘In Your Love’ represents Tyler Childers’ first release since he dropped his eclectic, experimental triple-album, Can I Take My Hounds To Heaven?, in September 2022.
The project spawned an array of fan-favourites, including ‘Angel Band’ and ‘Way of the Triune God’, both of which Tyler has included in his setlist at various points throughout his 2023 tour so far.
The revelation that ‘In Your Love’ would be released this Thursday comes after the alt-country maverick teased a short video clip earlier in the week. Before this, he changed his profile picture across all social media platforms, hinting at the immanent release of new music.
This led many fans to speculate that we might be getting a song called ‘I'll Wait For You’ as a new single, with Tyler Childers having performed this unreleased track during his recent headlining set at Bonnaroo 2023. Although it seemed this wouldn't be the case, it turns out that ‘In Your Love’ is actually that same track that Tyler performed at Bonnaroo under a new name.
To coincide with the ‘In Your Love’ premiere, Tyler revealed he'd be releasing his new album, Rustin’ in the Rain, on September 8.
