On Saturday (April 20), the Showdeo stage was aglow, but not because of some magical afternoon sun hanging high in the Texas sky. That was virtually nonexistent. Instead, the glow radiated from The Castellows, as they kicked off what was set to be another phenomenal year of Two Step Inn.
The heavenly harmonies of the sibling trio – comprising of Ellie on guitar, Powell on banjo, and Lily singing lead – were an enrapturing start to the weekend, their haunting tones chilling even against the unrelenting wind.
Bounding onto the stage to the tune of the Dropkick Murphys' raucous jig 'I'm Shipping Up to Boston', the group launched into an expansive set, deftly navigated a wide array of covers, originals, and inventive instrumentals. They pulled a number of offerings from their debut EP, A Little Goes A Long Way, tunes like 'Heartline Hill', 'I Know It’ll Never End', and 'No. 7 Road', all marrying beautifully with their eclectic song choices.
Over the last year or so, The Castellows have become a viral success, amassing a loyal online following through their striking covers posted to social media. The last couple of months alone have been a whirlwind for the sisters as they’ve embarked on their first headlining tour, released their debut, and as a result, quickly staked their claim as country music’s latest ones-to-watch.
Their thrilling set at Two Step Inn has only further cemented their star power, proving the siblings’ talents lie far beyond mere likes and views.
