The excitement around Morgan Wallen’s upcoming album continues as Richard Petty, mentioned in his latest track, ‘I Ain’t Comin’ Back,’ responds to his lyrical name drop.
Sharing a clip of the official ‘I Ain't Comin’ Back’ lyric video on his Instagram Stories, the legendary racing driver stated simply, “Thanks for the shoutout @morganwallen”.
We don’t have the exact figures, but we’d guess that the search term ‘who is Richard Petty’ increased by the millions after Wallen and Post Malone released the track last week.
Nicknamed ‘The King,’ Richard Petty’s legacy is iconic amongst the NASCAR history, with Petty generally considered to be the most successful stock car racer of all time. Stock car racing has always been prevalent in the southern states, and with Petty wearing a distinct Charlie 1 Horse cowboy hat – a brand also favoured by Lainey Wilson - this particular reference is all the more suitable for a country song.
Wallen sings, “But the night I said, ‘I’m leaving’ / I turned into Richard Petty / Broke my heart so I got even / In my ’97 Chevy.” Although Petty was more likely to drive an ’43 Plymouth than a ’97 Chevy, Wallen’s reference to the decorated driver creates a clear image that he was out of there at high speed, not hanging around and not looking back.
Wallen’s album, I’m The Problem, is set to be released on 16th May, with the stacked feature-list including pop phenom, Tate McRae, along with ERNEST, HARDY and Eric Church.
