Outside Lands 2024 was abuzz with its trademark genre-blending lineup, having hosted everyone from Tyler, The Creator to The Killers under its spotlights over the weekend. However, in between the hip-hop and pop rock offerings, some of country's biggest talent found a home at the San Francisco fest.
Charley Crockett, Paul Cauthen, Shaboozey, Katie Pruitt and more came to represent the genre, with one of its brightest torchbearers even headlining the massive event.
On Sunday (Aug. 11), Sturgill Simpson's appearance marked one of his first full-length performances in nearly three years and among the firsts since the release of his latest album Passage Du Desir, which arrived under the name of his alter ego Johnny Blue Skies.
During the headlining showcase, the singer-songwriter gave a career-spanning performance with a few surprises sprinkled in. He pulled from over a decade's worth of hits, sharing everything from High Top Mountain offerings, like 'Railroad of Sin', to debuting already well-loved Passage Du Desir tunes, such as 'If the Sun Never Rises Again'.
Whether he was delivering some good ol' Sturgill or flexing his new Blue Skies persona, his Outside Lands set was one for the books and perhaps a little sample of what we can expect from his Why Not? tour this fall.
