Stephen Wilson Jr. has given thankful listeners another taste of his upcoming debut album, with the Big Loud Records prodigy having today released a brand new track, ‘patches’.
The song will feature on the Southern Indiana native's hotly anticipated 2023 project, søn of dad, which is due to be released on September 15, and will also include previously released fan-favourites, ‘Father's Søn’, ‘billy’ and the Hailey Whitters-assisted ‘American Gothic’.
The newly unveiled track, ‘patches’, captures Stephen Wilson Jr.'s off-kilter, alt-country edge, while at the same time exploring a brighter, more buoyant sound compared to the likes of ‘Holler from the Holler’, ‘Year to Be Young 1994’ and ‘the devil’.
The uplifting sonics of ‘patches’ are mirrored by the optimistic, what-doesn't-kill-you-makes-you-stronger lyrics, with Stephen Wilson Jr. expressing his gratitude for the multitude of tough times that have contributed to the identity he proudly possesses today.
Speaking about the new release, the fast-emerging artist explained, “My scars got scars. Graffiti on graffiti on graffiti. ‘patches’ is a playful song with a serious message. A life lived not avoided. One packaged with consequences and fibrosis. A built-in collagen-based repair system showing the world the road map to where we’ve been. Wearing scars we’ve earned like we’ve earned them”.
The release of ‘patches’, which is pervaded by the clever, witty lyricism and intricate, left-field melodies we have come to expect from Stephen Wilson Jr., will have undoubtedly heightened fans’ already sky-high expectations ahead of søn of dad.
