Luke Combs has joined Peyton and Eli Manning for the latest instalment of ESPN's Monday Night Football, and although Combs was ultimately left disappointed as his beloved Carolina Panthers fell to a 20-9 defeat to the San Francisco 49ers, the country megastar still had plenty of fun during his guest appearance.

Eli began by asking Combs about his sporting track record when he was at school, with the former New York Giants player then bringing up Combs’ football self-evaluation.

Filled in during his time at AC Reynolds High School, next to “Skill Level” the ‘Beer Never Broke My Heart’ hitmaker wrote “I suck”, and then next to “Athleticism” he scribbled “I'm not”. Lastly, as for “Intelligence”, he hilariously declared “Not very”.

When asked by Eli what his greatest quality as a high school football player was, Combs laughs, before quipping, “What was something good about my game? Probably that I didn't play very much. That was probably the best thing about my game, is that I wasn't in, so we won a decent amount of games. No help from me”.

Despite being on the bench a lot, Combs goes on to stress that he had another equally as important part to play in AC Reynolds’ success, “I was a glue guy, more of a locker room guy. But hey, it played an important role in team morale. My nickname was ‘Jokes’. It's not exactly ‘Headhunter’, ‘Killer’ or anything like that. But I'll take ‘Jokes’”.

Later in their conversation, as the Panthers continued to struggle against the 49ers, Combs joked about the time Peyton and his Denver Broncos beat the Panthers in the 50th Super Bowl, “It's funny, I'm kind of on this lifelong mission to meet all the players who broke my heart over the years. Peyton was the first, I got to meet Drew Brees at Stagecoach this year and tell him he ruined my childhood as well. Now I'm just waiting to met Tom Brady, and tell him he also ruined my childhood by beating us in the Super Bowl. So I've got really two out of the three guys that were a constant source of sadness throughout my Panthers fandom. I'm just waiting to kind of...if you guys could maybe facilitate me and Tom, and me telling him how much he ruined my childhood as well that would be real nice”.

We'd love to see Combs appear on Brady's golfing podcast - like Morgan Wallen earlier in the year. The ‘Fast Car’ crooner is never afraid to poke fun at himself, and we think this would make for another laugh-out-loud country-sports crossover.
