"We'll try again in 2026," Megan Moroney wrote hopefully on TikTok as she shared the news that she was still to find romance this holiday season despite openly imploring Santa Claus in her song 'All I Want for Christmas is a Cowboy.'
"A few more hours til we retire this song til next year," she wrote on a carousel post of holiday photos on her TikTok along with the song 'All I Want for Christmas is a Cowboy.'
"I regret to announce that not one singular cowboy was under the tree this year," she hilariously captioned the post.
Released in December 2024, the song has already become a firm favourite and a fixture on every Christmas country playlist with its simple tale of a girl reaching out to Father Christmas with a very special request.
"Don't need a new phone, don't need a new car / Just bought me a new pink guitar / I'm an aunt to a puppy, so I don't need one for me," she sings, aware that success has brough her many things, except the one thing she desperately wants.
"Give me tall, hot in a Stetson / Somethin' I can unwrap like a present / Put him in some new Luccheses / Make him call me, 'Baby' / I swear I've been good all year / Please, Santa, please All I want for Christmas is a cowboy," she sings, listing off all the things she's looking for in her perfect Christmas present, before playfully adding, "Who only wants me" as a cheeky reference to the duplicitous boyfriends she often sings about in her songs.
Moroney keeps her relationships out of the spotlight, respecting others' privacy but there has been speculation in the past about relationships with fellow country stars Riley Green and Morgan Wallen.
"Alright Santa, I know you're busy, but come on... I'm not askin' for much," she begs the man in red towards the end of the song, but it seems her wish list has fallen on deaf ears for yet another year.
