During his momentous Stagecoach country covers set, Post Malone surprised the crowd by bringing out his good buddy, Brad Paisley, to perform the latter's hit single, ‘I'm Gonna Miss Her’.
Post Malone first covered the light-hearted break-up anthem back in 2021 as part of Matthew McConaughey's ‘We're Texas’ fundraiser, and this is now looked back upon as one of the turning-points that introduced the country world to Posty's genre-fluidity.
In anticipation of his Saturday set, Post Malone released a studio version of ‘I'm Gonna Miss Her’ as an Amazon Music exclusive, hinting at the fact that he'd be performing it at the festival.
Endearingly, the close friendship that's blossomed between Post Malone and Brad Paisley ever since Posty first covered ‘I'm Gonna Miss Her’ was evident throughout their Stagecoach performance. As Brad wandered cooly onto the stage, Posty beamed as he leant in for a hug, with the duo casually trading verses back and forth.
Post Malone's signature vibrato always brings a fresh, contemporary ambience to the 2002 classic, and he showcased again on Saturday why so many fans are excited for the New York singer-songwriter's continuing transition into country music.
Along with ‘I'm Gonna Miss Her’, Post Malone delivered swaggering takes on an array of iconic country tracks, including George Strait's ‘Check Yes Or No’, Alan Jackson's ‘Chattahoochee’, Toby Keith's ’Who's Your Daddy’, Sara Evans’ ‘Suds in the Bucket’ (featuring Sara Evans) and Dwight Yoakam's ‘Little Ways’ (featuring Dwight Yoakam).
In a star-studded set, Yoakam's appearance felt as though it carried an added significance, given the fact that Posty delivered his 2021 ‘I'm Gonna Miss Her’ cover with Yoakam's band.
The following evening, Post Malone joined Morgan Wallen for the electrifying live debut of their viral unreleased track, ‘I Had Some Help’, which is expected to be the lead single from Posty's forthcoming debut country album. We're hoping that, in addition to other previously teased tracks such as ’I Ain't Got A Guy For That’ with Luke Combs and ‘Missin’ You Like That’, Post Malone decides to include his stellar studio cover of ‘I'm Gonna Miss Her’ on the project's tracklist too.
