The wait is finally over as the 2024 NFL season has officially kicked off!
This year's opening match-up featured the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, against the strong Baltimore Ravens squad. In a rematch of the 2023 AFC Championship game, which saw KC punch their ticket to the Super Bowl this past February, it was the perfect start to what is sure to be another phenomenal football season.
While something like 75,000 fans funneled into Missouri's Arrowhead Stadium, and millions tuned into the live broadcast on NBC, one of country music's biggest stars was also locked onto the action on Thursday night (September 5).
Zach Bryan, who has made it known that he's a fierce Philadelphia Eagles fan, took it upon himself to offer his own commentary on X throughout the season opening game, often criticizing the Chiefs who are hoping for a "3peat" Super Bowl win this season.
"Talking about a 3peat before game one is insane," Bryan offered of the team who has secured the Vince Lombardi Trophy in the past two NFL seasons, thanks to their star-studded roster that features the likes of quarterback Patrick Mahomes, tight end Travis Kelce and more.
The Grammy-nominated entertainer was quick to share that, though he will always remain loyal to his precious Eagles, his personal Fantasy Football team for 2024 featured a number of players from the night's pairing, including Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco, who ran for 45 yards and nabbed a touchdown score in Thursday's game, as well as Ravens wide receiver Zay Flowers (6 REC, 37 YDS) and the entirety of the Ravens defense.
While accusing the night's referee squad of making several biased calls in favor of the Chiefs, even Bryan couldn't deny that the KC versus Baltimore kickoff game was one for the ages.
After a continuous back-and-forth throughout the duration of the game, which saw both teams going tit for tat, Mahomes and his sturdy offensive line were able to pull away pull away early in the fourth quarter as they went up 27-20.
As the seconds ticked down and Lamar Jackson's Ravens offense continued to advance the ball closer to the Chiefs end zone, the game ended with a touchdown pass to Baltimore's Isaiah Likely who was unlucky enough to have his toes planted out of bounds, signaling the first of what will likely be many more Kansas City wins this season.
"Not the only time I've been a toe short," Bryan offered of the game-ending moment. He later added, "That was honestly the best season opener a person can ask for," in response to a fan pleading "Please don't hate us, Chiefs kingdom loves you."
Bryan's tried and true Eagles will be hitting the field tonight (Friday, September 6) as they take on the Green Bay Packers at Corinthians Arena in São Paulo, Brazil. Marking the first time that the NFL has ever played in South America, kick off will be at 7:15 pm CT, exclusively on Peacock.
