When you name your album Guts, it's safe to say you've got the confidence - or the ‘guts’ - to make a few surprise turns and keep your audience on their toes, something Olivia Rodrigo undoubtedly did during her Rupp Arena show in Lexington, Kentucky.
The ‘vampire’ megastar treated the packed-out crowd to an unexpected duet with country trailblazer, Tyler Childers, with the ‘In Your Love’ hitmaker emerging on-stage to a sea of cheers, before the duo performed Tyler's now-iconic ballad, ’All Your'n’.
The moment was given an added sheen of significance by the fact that Tyler was stepping out in front of his hometown crowd, with the ‘Lady May’ singer-songwriter being such a revered figure in Lexington that he even has a day dedicated to him, June 4.
Although Tyler Childers has always done his best to steer clear of the mainstream, ’All Your'n’ has blossomed into a sing-a-long favourite for listeners across genres.
The Rupp Arena audience screamed each word back at the two artists, with Olivia Rodrigo giving her portions of the track a sleeker, more intricate ambience compared to the rugged, rawer feel that always accompanies Tyler Childers’ unmistakable vocals. These two contrasting styles of delivery ended up being a killer combination, and if Olivia Rodrigo's decision to bring out Tyler Childers is a hint at a forthcoming foray into the country music world, we're certainly here for it.
When introducing her special guest, Olivia Rodrigo expressed how much she admires Tyler Childers and, in particular, ‘All Your'n’, “I'm just such a huge fan of his and this song we're about to sing I think is one of my favourite love songs of all time”.
Olivia Rodrigo's Kentucky performance was part of her immensely popular Guts World Tour, with the global chart-topper set to perform across Missouri, Oklahoma, Colorado, Utah, California, Washington, Oregon and more in the coming weeks.
