On May 11, Old Dominion triumphed in the 2023 ACM Award category for Group of the Year.
In their acceptance speech, the beach-loving, sun-soaked troubadours expressed their gratitude for the prestigious accolade, while also outlining that they recognise there are people out there struggling with bigger concerns than awards and No. 1 singles.
Old Dominion's lead singer, Matt Ramsey, led the speech, and emphasised that the band would continue to try and make music that can help to soothe the stresses and strains of those going through hardship.
It's a message that aligns with Old Dominion's repertoire of light-hearted, playful hits, such as ‘Make A Little’, ‘No Hard Feelings’ and ‘I Was On A Boat That Day’, the latter of which featured on the group's latest album, Time, Tequila & Therapy.
The chart-topping band beat out stiff competition from the likes Midland, Little Big Town, Lady A and Zac Brown Band. Before the 2023 ACM Awards, some were tipping Zac Brown Band for victory, especially considering the multi-instrumentalists took home the 2023 CMT Group/Duo Video of the Year Award earlier in the year.
Before Old Dominion's victory was announced, attendees at the 2023 ACM Awards were treated to an array of captivating opening performances from Cole Swindell, Kane Brown and Cody Johnson.
