Morgan Wallen's ‘Last Night’ has now tied Miley Cyrus’ viral hit, ‘Flowers’, as the longest-running Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 of 2023 so far.

‘Last Night’, which appears on the Sneedville megastar's new album, One Thing At A Time, has now spent eight weeks at the coveted top spot on the all-genre chart. In addition, ‘Last Night’ remains at No. 1 on both the Billboard Country Airplay and Hot Country Songs charts.

It's an impressive feat for the ‘You Proof’ hitmaker, who continues to shift the goal-posts further and further ahead for his competitors, with Morgan Wallen's One Thing At A Time notching up a staggering twelfth week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

Cyrus’ ‘Flowers’ has been one of the definitive songs of 2023, with the inventive, pop-infused anthem receiving an additional buzz due to it supposedly being directed at the Tennessee artist's ex-husband, Liam Hemsworth.

Nonetheless, Morgan Wallen has so far been able to fight off competition from Miley Cyrus, with many expecting the country maverick to hold onto the top spot for at least another week.

His position atop the Billboard 200, however, seems in jeopardy, with a strong challenge being mounted by Taylor Swift, following the re-release of her much-loved 2022 album, Midnights.

Morgan Wallen's Hot 100 success represents a key moment for country music as a whole, which has often struggled to compete with the likes of pop, rap and EDM on the all-genre chart in recent years.

Wallen is spearheading a new wave of artists that are less concerned about strict genre boundaries. This was epitomised by Wallen's appearance on Lil Durk's new track, ‘Stand By Me’.

This year's ACM Male Artist of the Year winner is presently enjoying a hiatus from his blockbuster 2023 One Night At A Time tour, after he re-injured his vocal chords in early May. His next run of shows will commence on June 22 at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois.
