Morgan Wallen has taken to socials to tease a brand new Post Malone collaboration, ‘I Had Some Help’, which appears to have been co-written with Ernest and Charlie Handsome.
Well, it's safe to say it's been a week of early Christmas presents for Morgan Wallen fans. On Wednesday (December 20th), the Tennessee hitmaker made a surprise appearance in Drake's cinematic ‘You Broke My Heart’ music video, and now, just a couple of days later, Morgan has shared what could be the first track off his upcoming album.
The now-deleted snippet, which is around a minute long, finds Morgan leaning into the genre-blending, pop-leaning sound that he showcased on chart-toppers such as ‘7 Summers’ and the title-track from his 2023 album, One Thing At A Time.
Morgan's distinctive drawl coasts across a vibrant, synth-laden instrumental, with the ‘Last Night’ hitmaker explaining why he can't be the only one to take the blame for a recent break-up.
In the earworm of a chorus, Morgan Wallen croons playfully, “I had some help / It ain't like I could make this kinda mess all by myself”, before spinning the old adage “teamwork makes the dream work” into a reason to shift some of the blame for the couple's demise.
Although the clip, which Morgan had shared to Instagram, does not feature Post Malone's vocals, the ‘Everything I Love’ singer-songwriter has tagged Posty, Ernest and Charlie Handsome in the post, which seemingly implies ‘I Had Some Help’ arose from the studio session the four collaborators shared in November.
Shortly after that, Morgan Wallen and Post Malone took the CMA Awards stage alongside HARDY for a blistering performance of Joe Diffie's ‘John Deere Green’ and ‘Pick-Up Man’, both of which feature on the forthcoming HIXTAPE Vol. 3: DIFFTAPE project.
In a recent Billboard interview, Morgan Wallen hinted at his continued progression towards a less country-specific sound, which is perhaps unsurprising, given the fact that Morgan has spent much of 2023 dominating the all-genre charts.
‘I Had Some Help’ epitomises Morgan's ability to explore uncharted sonic terrain and infuse pop, hip hop and indie textures into his music, while still anchoring each song to country with the help of his signature charismatic Sneedvillian vocals.
This blueprint underpinned One Thing At A Time, with Morgan's good buddies and frequent co-writers, Ernest and Charlie Handsome, contributing to a variety of highlights from the record, including ‘You Proof’, ‘Me + All Your Reasons’ and ‘Me To Me’.
We're still waiting on a release date for ‘I Had Some Help’ - and, indeed, Post Malone's debut country album - but after hearing this infectious clip, it's safe to say we're hoping Morgan and Posty decide to drop it sooner rather than later.
