It's safe to say Morgan Wallen is keeping fans on their toes as he gears up for his new album. The Sneedville hitmaker has taken to his socials to share a heartbreaking, ethereal new song snippet, which appears to be titled, ‘Good to See You Smile’.

It finds Morgan crooning gently against the backdrop of a soft, undulating acoustic guitar and a haunting, chanting chorus, with the atmospheric track unlike anything else in the ‘More Than My Hometown’ singer-songwriter's expansive discography.

‘Good to See You Smile’ leans closer to the sparse, despairing intricacy of his latest single, ‘Lies, Lies, Lies’, and the unreleased ‘I Guess’, compared to Morgan Wallen's other pop-infused teasers, such as ‘Love Somebody’ and ‘Come Back As a Redneck’.

On the newly unveiled clip, Morgan Wallen paints a bittersweet image of a bar-scene, where his partner beams for a photo alongside him and her friend. He recalls, “I can’t remember the last time / You looked as happy as you did tonight / Your tipsy friend grabbed that bartender / Gave him her phone and pulled us over there with her / He counted to three, baby, I haven’t seen / This side of you in forever”.

He faces the crushing realisation that his lover's apparent happiness was false, hinting that their relationship is on the rocks, “I hate that’s the truth / But baby, you never do when we’re alone together / But it was good to see you smile / Girl you know it's been a while / It was good to see you smile / Even if it was just for the picture”.

Not only does this mark new sonic territory for Morgan Wallen, ‘Good to See You Smile’ also showcases a different perspective to the ‘Everything I Love’ chart-topper's usual break-up angst. On the likes of ‘I Had Some Help’ and ‘I Guess’, for instance, he throws the blame for the end of the relationship right back at his partner.

By contrast, on ‘Good to See You Smile’, Morgan Wallen adopts the role of a boyfriend that longs for his partner to rediscover the happiness they enjoyed at the start of the relationship.

An array of fellow artists have been praising ‘Good to See You Smile’ in the comments, with Jelly Roll championing Morgan Wallen as “Mr. Don't Miss”. Anne Wilson gushed, “Gosh nobody is as good as you”, before taking to her Instagram Story to toast Morgan's unique artistry, “I'm not even kidding when I say I just cried listening to this lolllll. I just gotta say Morgan Wallen is a one of a kind talent”.

The new teaser arrives just a couple of days after Morgan uploaded a video montage from his recent tour-stops, with the clip pointedly beginning with a few tantalising studio shots. In the caption, he shared a set of lyrics from his fan-favourite unreleased track, ‘Love Somebody’, which is widely expected to be his next single.

There's no release date yet for ‘Good to See You Smile’, but it's clear the rollout for Morgan Wallen's new album is picking up pace. Some fans suspect he's eyeing up his momentous home-state double-header at Neyland Stadium next month as the place to officially announce his hotly anticipated One Thing At A Time follow-up record. Given the fervent response that has greeted ‘Good to See You Smile’, we reckon - and we hope - Morgan and his team will be fast-tracking its release.

Given the quality of ‘Love Somebody’, ‘I Guess’, ‘Come Back as a Redneck’ and now ‘Good to See You Smile’, Morgan Wallen's next chapter is already shaping up to be one for the books.
