As she walked the Red Carpet ahead of the 2025 American Music Awards, Megan Moroney offered fans some teasers about her forthcoming studio album, as well as revealing that she'd love to collaborate with Ed Sheeran in the near future.
After touching on her dress, quipping, “It's giving sparkly mermaid, it's almost summer”, the Georgia native joked that she was feeling a little starstruck, “It does [feel different]. Yeah, I feel like I'm just trying to blend in and fit in, and not say anything too crazy...I'm like, ‘Oh shit, that's Gwen Stefani’...I'm honoured to be here, it's really cool”.
Unfortunately, Megan Moroney did end up saying something that many viewed as pretty ‘crazy’ when presenting Dan + Shay with Favorite Duo or Group alongside Shaboozey, with Moroney reading off the teleprompter that The Carter Family “basically invented country music”, which drew a puzzled look from Shaboozey. This wasn't Moroney's fault, though, with the script being penned by someone else.
On the Red Carpet, Moroney share that, despite being in Las Vegas, she hadn't caught her ‘You Had To Be There’ collaborator Kenny Chesney's Sphere show yet, before hinting that she might be joining him at a later date - hopefully for the live debut of their new duet, “I haven't gotten to go yet, but I'm hoping it'll be really, really soon”.
As for her Am I Okay? follow-up record, Megan Moroney offered an update to Billboard, explaining, “I still got a couple more songs to write [for the new album], I think. But I'm really excited. It's a different vibe...I don't want to give away too much”.
Excitingly, the ‘Tennessee Orange’ singer-songwriter then touched on her dream collaboration, “I will say right now the only confirmed collab for the next album would be the Kenny song. But I've got a couple people in mind. I've been really inspired by Ed Sheeran's stuff, so I would love to do a song with him...This is not me teasing anything...Me and Ed email all the time. The other day, he emailed me at like 3am and was like, ‘Listening to ‘Girl in the Mirror’, it's so good’, I'm like, ‘Do you sleep?’ He was probably in like Germany or something...He's really sweet and he's been really supportive, and I'm like, ‘Holy shit, that's Ed Sheeran’”.
In a separate Red Carpet interview with Variety, Moroney echoed these sentiments about the ‘Shape of You’ hitmaker, “I played the Bluebird round with him, and I've always loved and respected him, but to meet him, and then just see how much he loves songwriting, it was like, two musical theatre kids getting together and being like nerds. That's how I felt. I'm like, ‘Wow, he looks at songwriters the way I do when they have a crazy hook’. And I think it's especially cool because he's a worldwide superstar, so for him to still have that core of just loving songs, it just made me love him so much more. I would love to do a song with him”.
Megan Moroney delivered a stunning, intimate set alongside Ed Sheeran at Nashville's iconic Bluebird Café in March, with Moroney performing ‘Beautiful Things’ for the first time.
With Megan Moroney teaming up with Kenny Chesney for the electrifying ‘You Had To Be There’ and speaking warmly about how impactful their 2024 Sun Goes Down Tour has been on her outlook, some fans are wondering whether the country phenom might have an island-inspired, beach country album up her sleeve.
We're hoping ‘Beautiful Things’, which Megan Moroney endearingly shared was inspired by her niece, will be given an official release date before too long, with the sense of anticipation sky-high ahead of the country trailblazer's blockbuster new album.
