While en route to the Variety Hitmakers ceremony in Los Angeles, during which she was crowned Storyteller of the Year, Megan Moroney went live on Instagram to tease a new snippet of her eagerly anticipated unreleased song, ‘Cloud 9’.
The bright, uptempo offering serves as the title-track to the Georgia native's forthcoming album, which arrives on February 20th and is set to include the already-released singles, ‘Beautiful Things’ and ‘6 Months Later’. Excitingly, the record - Moroney's third - will also feature the long-awaited fan-favourite, ‘Wedding Dress’.
We were treated to a very brief snippet of ‘Cloud 9’ as part of the ‘Tennessee Orange’ singer-songwriter's 2026 tour announcement, but now, during the impromptu Instagram Live, we've been gifted a much longer portion of the infectious track.
Across an energising, guitar-driven instrumental, Moroney playfully addresses the camera as she discusses an old flame, “...all your stories / Your graveyard of girls before me”.
The ‘Am I Okay?’ hitmaker goes on, “It's all sunshine and blue skies / But I can also make it rain / Don't make me wish I didn't get dressed up / Let you take me out / Wreck your plans...”
Given the fact that ‘Cloud 9’ will clearly be pivotal to this next chapter of Moroney's music, we're hoping we might get to hear it early as a single ahead of the album's release.
Inevitably, as with so many of Moroney's songs, fans have wasted no time as they've started to speculate who ‘Cloud 9’ was written about. The ‘make it rain’ lyric has been interpreted by some as a veiled reference to the ‘Heaven By Noon’ crooner's rumoured ex, Riley Green, who released a song titled, ‘Make It Rain’ earlier in the year.
Regardless of who ‘Cloud 9’ was inspired by, one thing's for sure - it's a certified earworm, and we can't wait to hear the full studio version of this future hit in the New Year.
