Megan Moroney has taken to socials to share a new snippet of her unreleased track, ‘Beautiful Things’, with fans clamouring for the Georgia native to drop the vulnerable offering.
Moroney debuted ‘Beautiful Things’ back in March during her surprise writers round with Ed Sheeran, and this latest teaser suggests she might be readying it as her next single.
It finds Megan Moroney crooning wistfully about the fact that sometimes the most magnificent things in life are treated more harshly, with Moroney crafting visceral imagery of hurricanes destroying serene beaches and fires engulfing breathtaking canyons.
Moroney has shared the heartbreaking inspiration behind ‘Beautiful Things’, revealing that she “wrote this song with my niece in mind🥲 when she was born i remember being in awe of how sweet and perfect she was & i (in true emo cowgirl fashion) was sad knowing that when she grows up the world may be cruel to her sometimes”.
The ‘Tennessee Orange’ singer-songwriter goes on to movingly explain, “inevitably she’ll get her feelings hurt by friends or her heart broken or just have bad days & i wanted her to be able to have a song to listen to when & if she ever needs it”.
A slew of Moroney's contemporaries have flooded the comments, gushing about this stellar new track. Maggie Antone shares, “hey megan why you gotta bring a tear to my eye like thatttt”, while Jessi Alexander praises, “So many girls need this. Love you”.
In particular, the line “Words can make a mockingbird forget their born to sing” feels pointed, with Moroney perhaps touching on how her naysayers attempt to bring her down.
It's a poignant, evocative song that once again showcases Megan Moroney's ability to capture a specific form of pain - as she does on ‘Heaven By Noon’, for instance - while still providing listeners with a chink of light and a wonderfully poetic silver lining.
With ‘You Had To Be There’ with Kenny Chesney arriving earlier in May, and Megan Moroney potentially teasing a new era with her yellow dress at the 2025 ACM Awards, it looks like the rollout for Moroney's next project is - excitingly - fast approaching.
For the lyrics to this new snippet of Megan Moroney's ‘Beautiful Things’, see below:
“You're standing at your bathroom mirror
Crying ‘What did I do? tears
Your friends are out and you're right here
-
There's a party, you didn't know
You just found out from your phone
Did they not want you to go?
-
Oh yeah, you feel that twisting knife
Oh, I know it ain't right
-
Fires burn up canyons
A hurricane can wreck a beach
Words can make a mockingbird forget they're born to sing
Lies can break a fragile heart and doubt can crush your dreams
But honey, just take it from me
The world is hard on beautiful things”
