In a recent interview with Caylee Hammack, Kristian Bush spoke fondly of the early days with Megan Moroney, back when she was a student and interned for him at his studio in Atlanta, Georgia.
“We would take an intern from the University of Georgia every year,” Bush tells Hammack during the conversation, “they have a program run by David Barbee, and David sent us Megan at some point.”
“She didn’t tell us that she sang or wrote,” Bush went on to say about the CMA award winner, laughing as he reminisces about the ‘awful’ things they probably made her do – think spreadsheet management. Enough said.
Knowing a golden opportunity when she sees one, Moroney asked if Bush and his brother would produce one of her songs.
“I’m not producing the intern’s songs!” Bush remembered telling his brother at the time. Worn down by integrity, the brothers gave the track a listen and, low and behold, Bush has produced every Megan Moroney track ever since.
Bush and Moroney have a really sweet friendship – a recent tour bus video showed the ‘Am I Okay?’ singer showing fans some pictures of her on the CMA red carpet the year she won Best New Artist, which was gifted to her by Bush. “They just make me emo cowgirl,” she said as she showed them to her fans.
We’re hoping for a continued partnership on MM3, which seems promising as he produced her latest track, ‘6 Months Later’ - a sure sign that this next album will be just as stellar as the previous ones.
