Hot on the heels of releasing their stellar new collaboration, ‘You Had To Be There’, Megan Moroney has shared a sweet story from her time on tour with Kenny Chesney in 2024.
Throughout the year, Moroney opened for Chesney on his stadium-filling Sun Goes Down run, with the duo's friendship endearingly blossoming over the course of the summer.
It marked the Georgia native's first tour of this scale, with Megan Moroney emphasising in recent interviews how she valued the experience of getting to support Kenny Chesney. Moroney has repeatedly highlighted how much she's learned from the country icon, with the ‘Tennessee Orange’ hitmaker even paying tribute to Chesney by writing their new duet, ‘You Had To Be There’, as a Christmas present for him.
During a new chat with Bobby Bones, Moroney has shared a heartwarming story about one particular instance of Chesney going out of his way for her and her team on tour.
When asked what Kenny Chesney was like on tour, Megan Moroney responded, “The best ever”, before gushing, “Like I would redo last summer every single summer if I could”.
Moroney recalled one memory that stands out, “He gets to travel like the king of country he is. Me, not so much. So one time we had like a couple of days off, the routing was weird, and we were stuck in a parking lot in Ohio or something for a couple of days”.
Megan Moroney went on, “[Chesney] found out that we were having to do that, so he literally flew my crew...He sent his plane to middle-of-nowhere Ohio, put us in rooms in Malibu for a couple of days, just because he knew that we needed the rest. He's just, like, so kind and so welcoming, and we learn so much from him”.
With Kenny Chesney now gearing up for his blockbuster Las Vegas Sphere residency, which kicks off next week, we're keeping our fingers crossed Megan Moroney might join him as a special guest one night for the live debut of ‘You Had To Be There’.
