Last night (Monday, October 6th), Megan Moroney and Ed Sheeran delivered a surprise pop-up show at Brooklyn's KidSuper, leaving fans calling once again for a collaboration.
The duo traded songs throughout the intimate performance, which came just a matter of days after Sheeran hosted his own solo pop-up at the colourful, vibrant New York venue.
Taking to Instagram, the ‘Shape of You’ hitmaker explained the premise of the performance, “Played a secret show with @megmoroney tonight at @kidsuper in Brooklyn. The rule was deep cuts, song for song, until the end where we played some of our hits”, before heartwarmingly paying homage to Moroney, “I loved it so much, thank you Megan for your time and being up for the idea. I’m such a fan, you rock”.
Moroney echoed Sheeran's excitement at getting to be a part of this special showcase, commenting, “Loved every minute of tonight!!! Thank you for putting this together”.
Moroney serenaded the packed-out crowd with fan-favourites such as ’Hair Salon’, from her debut Pistol Made of Roses EP, which epitomises the Georgia native's penchant for capturing intricate, storytelling magic while maintaining her conversational tone.
Moroney also performed her latest single, ’Six Months Later’, along with the chart-topping ‘Am I Okay?’, while Sheeran reeled off hits such as the uptempo, part-rapped ’Don't’, as well as the beautifully vulnerable ’Camera’, taken from his new Play album.
Both artists have made no secret of their admiration for one another, with Sheeran endearingly toasting Moroney's Am I Okay? album in a recent interview, revealing he and his wife listen to it on repeat at home, while Moroney has repeatedly underlined her hopes of one day getting to collaborate with Sheeran.
We're hoping the latter will come to fruition sooner rather than later, especially given how these trailblazers share a wonderful connection and a clear mutual respect for their work. With Moroney seemingly gearing up for a mysterious announcement on October 9th, which we suspect will be the unveiling of her third studio album, we're keeping everything crossed that Sheeran appears on the tracklist.
